130th overall = Vojtech Budik (2016, 130th) – '15-16: Prince Albert #6 (WHL)

Budik is a well-rounded defenseman. He does a good job of prioritizing tasks and shoring up his own end of the rink first and foremost. He uses his quickness and lateral footwork to keep tabs on his opponent’s movements and keep him to the perimeter. Budik is quietly efficient, using the best routes available to retrieve pucks and retain possession as he works the puck back up ice. He has a smoother style of skating that really benefits from the first strong step, allowing him to gain momentum. His ability to remain balanced in the fine-motor aspects of his skating really solidifies his stance and allows him to not be knocked off the play. Budik is strong physically and works hard on the boards to contain opponents so his teammates can dig at the pucks. His coverage of the defensive end is very strong, and he controls his actions and takes away variables to the offense with his mobility and stick. He keeps gaps relatively tight and cuts off lanes to the net before a drive begins. Budik handles the puck with some skill, but keeps it fairly simple when carrying the puck up ice. He uses some pump fakes and slight change of direction to create a bit of room to get the pass off. He is very strong through his stick and is seldom getting stripped of the puck when he is holding onto it. He doesn’t have a ton of offensive creativity and chooses to play a safer, complementary type of two-way game.
NHL POTENTIAL: Middle-Pairing Two-Way Defenseman

My guess.
It's going to fun when we do the next prospect poll, and I vote Budik higher than someone drafted ahead of him, and get yelled at for having an opinion that differs from the draft order.
Defensive standout uses intelligent positioning to box out opponents and stays right off the hip shooters with great spacing. Terrific footwork, agility, and defensive awareness. Takes space given to him and turns innocent looking pinches into dangerous ones -- puts in second effort to ensure pucks get to teammates in scoring areas. Long stride with great glide -- deceptive, effortless skater. Great defensive fundamentals, never turns his back on the play, frequently hits wingers on the breakout with no look passes, and keeps passes out of the middle. Great hand-eye coordination with a quick stick to knock down saucer passes in the slot. Decent size and strength is still developing. Outworks opponents behind his net, frequently winning battles against larger forwards through sheer desire. Plays simple, mistake-free game. Coaches always put him out to protect late leads -- shutdown defender.
Projection: Fabulous skating shutdown defender.
Style compares to: Zbynek Michalek
Really like the scouting report here and the emphasis on his ability to move in the transition game
Is this guy a more stay at home defense men?

He has mobility and was used with Hajek on the top pairing. Usage matters. Why Habscheid doesn't use him in more offensive situations, but for a team that is -24 in GF/GA, Budik to be a plus player speaks to his embrace of his role.
