I think his contract negotiations have been a mixed bag. Yes he got a ton of criticism for playing hardball with young guys like Anderson (and iirc Johansen) but in hindsight it was 100% the right move. But as you mentioned for every good deal, there's an albatross.

I don't think for example the wennberg deal was bad, he was still a useful player, but I was never a fan of the buyout itself. It never made sense to me.
