Gets the canucks a defender signed long term at a reasonable hit, for the preds, podkolzin will probably come over at a similar time to Askarov and makes room for some of their young D. Preds can take back some salary to even it out if needed. How close is this?

Don't see the Nucks trading a rebuikding asset for an older D.

Even tho I think Podkolzin ends up like a Nick Foligno type of middle 6er / 40pts winger with good 2way game

Fair enough I suppose, figured with 3 UFA defencemen they’d be looking to add one this summer.

This is a hard sell. Podkolzin has immense value for the Canucks, we do need D but I am not sold on giving up this prospect

Value probably favours Vancouver but I don't see them adding another $6M+ defender over 30 years old at the cost of their top prospect.

Trading a 19 year old for a 30 year old doesnt really make sense for us even though Ellis is great.
