I think some team may take a look at Studnicka . Still young and lots of room to grow. The salary cap situation is certainly impacting teams ability to ice there best team.

Feels like the Canucks are getting a little cute with trying to work their cap situation.

Wolanin is absolutely an NHL caliber defenceman. Nothing special, but he's a solid all-around #7D for peanuts on the cap for two years. He's got decent size, he's mobile, he can move the puck alright, decent enough defensively, can chip in a little bit at the offensive end. Just nothing flashy or really standout.

Studnicka also came to camp ready. He looks like a decent 4th line/Spare depth forward. Same deal really. Skates well, decent size, reasonably effective all around, not really a specialist in anything that stands out.

I'd be happy with either on my roster in a depth role. Not necessarily the sort of guys who tend to get claimed given where they're at in their journeys age-wise. But it still seems like a risk they're taking purely to do some cap juggling. Or just have inferior players make the roster i guess. But that's hard to believe.

I was really big on Studnicka after he was drafted.
Really thought Boston had something special there

Hopefully he can find his game at the NHL level still

Phew! Glad these two guys cleared. Wol is a difference maker even as a 6th D, and I think Studnicka has turned a corner this offseason, looks much faster and stronger. I think both are up again this year once they get in gear in Abby.

Good news for this Canuck fan :bb:

Yeah. Very glad they both cleared. They're both NHL players and very useful to have around as depth. I don't even think these are guys who need to "get in gear" down in the AHL. They both came in looking like NHL ready depth players. More than anything, this feels like they got caught up in cap maneuvering. Though going out and trading for Lafferty is probably a slap in the face for Studnicka specifically...and likely means he stands a low chance of being recalled any time soon.

Wolanin...i really don't know what they're doing there, if not cap fiddling. To keep him until the very end of camp, only to send him down in favour of a guy in Hirose who they barely even looked at in preseason...looks entirely like a cap/roster management move. Wouldn't surprise me to see him back with the big club sooner, rather than later.

It must be cap jazz, indicated most clearly by Bustili Bustkolzin being recalled.

Yeah. Bringing him back up tells me they're shenaniganzing something to do with the cap. Between him and Hirose...they obviously wanted guys with certain salaries on ELCs and waiver exemption on the opening roster...for whatever they're trying to do.

This was very well written & expresses the thoughts of many Canucks fans.

Nicely done & Thank you @biturbo19

I believe I saw somebody on here suggest that they had to bring him up to start the season or else they wouldn't have been able to at a later point. I don't know how any of that works though.
