Blood was great, that was one of my first FPS.

Too Human got waaaay too much hate imo. There were some really cool ideas and gameplay.

Gun was fantastic, and didn't seem to get much love. It's especially odd because there aren't a ton of western games, and this was a great one. Gun (video game) - Wikipedia

I also think Guns of Icarus, Dead Island, pretty much the entire saints row series, and shadow warrior 1 and 2(new ones) don't get enough appreciation.

Has everyone heard of Ikaruga? It's easily my favorite shoot'em-up. Love the concept. Your ship has to constantly swap back and forth between polarities depending on the polarity of the bullets. If you get hit by the same polarity, you absorb it to charge up a blast, and if you get hit by the opposite polarity, you're destroyed by it. Shooting enemies with the opposite polarity kills them faster, but then you're contending with more bullets that can kill you. The whole thing just ends up feeling like this clever, addictive, brain-twisting, and ultra challenging ballet of precision, where you're weaving in and out of different polarity patterns and adapting to what's being thrown at you.

I bought the rerelease on Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360 a long time ago. I think the game kicked my ass and I never gave it a proper shake. Pretty sure it’ll work on Xbox One though, I’ll give it another shot soon.

I played the demo for Too Human and thought it was great and had so much potential. A third person action RPG with a loot system like Diablo and combat based on different movements on the right control stick was a pretty clever idea at the time. It was originally supposed to be a trilogy and the developer had a good track record up until that point. I forget why it got panned by critics, feel like it might have been the camera and controls.

The camera certainly had its bad moments, but just like the controls, was fine once you got the hang of it. I think what really hurt them was the steep learning curve of the controls
/camera. It had a very different control scheme, and reviewers didn't dedicate the time or effort to learn it. Iirc there was one very negative review where it was discovered later that the author hadn't unlocked the achievement for performing a fairly basic combo.

The other big thing was the lead dev went apeshit over the gaming media crapping all over a beta build and fired back aggressively. Unsurprisingly they didn't like that, and were probably overly harsh on the game. There were some fair criticisms, but some of the complaints and scores were just silly.

I'm upset that I traded in my GameCube copy so many years ago. Probably worth a decent amount of money...

Couple GBA games that come to mind

Astro Boy Omega Factor - great arcade style game on the handheld

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - didn't get a lot of love cause it was a much more childish game than the original, but I liked it a lot, explored childhood insecurities and all that. A bit short but still very good.

I've heard good things about Beyond Good & Evil, but have yet to play it. It was a game I wanted to buy when it came out on GameCube (I had it on my Christmas list), but it wasn't available/the parents couldn't find it. I bought a used copy from Amazon a few years ago but have yet to re-connect my GameCube/Wii.

That is intense man, I'm not sure how a person can even do this.
The part where the ships alternate between covering for each other (one guy absorbing the bullets in front while the other shoots with the stronger polarity from behind) is pretty awesome.

And for anyone who missed it, it's one guy controlling two players.

Well I just finished Dex and I can safely say it belongs on this list. It is basically a 2D Deus Ex. Everything about it screams Deus Ex. The devs did a great job, the story was incredible and the cyberpunk world it was set in was wonderful.

Alpha Protocol
PS3 and 360

People go nuts over Obsidian games in general, but never this one. Spy game RPG by the people behind Fallout New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. To people that played it, it gets high ranks. 97% approval from users on Google. 9/10 on Steam rating...

Alpha Protocol is the Great RPG of Last Gen - Kotaku

The entire game is so much fun, the way you can play it, respond to people. If you want to play as a total asshole you can, or Bond, entirely. One of my favourite games ever, and most people don't know it even exists. It's up there with Skyrim, Fallout, Mass Effect trilogy as the best RPG games of last generation. Has some of the best and funniest lines, just a great game.

Probably the only other game besides Deus Ex where after I beat it, I immediately started over and played a different way.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (2003, PC)
This might be my favourite FPS of all time. It was a free and open-source multiplayer only FPS. The game was heavily class-based and involved experience points where you could level up and unlock new abilities and weapons based on your performance - but these would reset after every match (like a MOBA).

The game had a mix of different modes and objectives, mostly based on one team defending while the other team is on the offence. My favourites were the payload game types where you'd need to escort a tank - the other team would try to damage it and then the engineers would need to repair it until it got to the destination. Then, you'd need to plant a bomb or capture a flag.

The maps were the strong points, whether they were user created or based on the stock game. Many maps included different routes that could be created/destroyed by using dynamite.

With the mention of Enemy Territory (I wish I got to play that game, I didn't have cable internet or a good enough computer back then to play it) and thinking of other shooters from that time, the Soldier of Fortune series was awesome. Soldier of Fortune 1 was so damn gruesome, every limb could be ripped off with a shotgun blast or if you're really persistent, just with a knife. The throat shots were the most brutal while you see them grab their throat, blood spurting through their fingers, and you hear them choking on blood. It was incredibly violent but the hitboxes were so cool, especially for its time. Even today, you don't see games with animations for hitboxes like that. I did play some multiplayer for Soldier of Fortune 2 at a friends house and I remember it was a ton of fun.

Edit - Also agree with Alpha Protocol, that was such a cool game. Although it came out recently enough that a lot of people still talk about it. It didn't have crazy sales but it still has a pretty dedicated fan base.
