Hyman
Fast, relentless on the
forechek. Good defensively
and on the PK. No hands,
no offensive ability, but
thats 100% ok cuz hes a
real gud pro
Matthews
Great shot, can handle the
puck in a phone booth. Wins
puck battles against entire
lines, good pass, great in his
own net, strong but not
physical, very calm, sometimes
too calm. Should be Captain
Nylander
Fast, insanely skilled, great
playmaker, incredible shot.
Effort lacking at times, but
when he's on his game he
is a difference maker. Needs
to work out play in own zone
Marleau
Fast, good pass, responsible
in his own zone, great leader,
real gud pro, intangibles > on
ice play. Cant raise the puck
on a breakaway to save his life
Kadri
Responsible defensively,
plays with an edge. Lots of
skill, good hands, can score,
somewhat inconsistent
offensively
Marner
Fast, incredible hands, when
he's on his games and has
confidence he looks
like a superstar, when he's
not he looks lost.
VanRiemsdyk
Incredible hand eye, great
in front of the net. Scores goals
but has no idea what defence
is, and is a liability in his own
zone. Bad back check. Soft.
Bozak
Good face off man, good on
the forecheck when on his
game, good offensive 4th
line C, no defensive ability.
Liked by teammates
Brown
Hard working, no frills winger
responsible defensively,
good in his own zone, can
quietly score 20/season.
Another good pro.
Komarov
Physical, workhorse, great on
the Penalty Kill and in his own
end. limited offensive
ability,great 3rd/4th liner.
Especially 4th.
Plekanec/Moore

4th Line C
Not enough info

Kapanen
Speed, Speed, He is SPEED,
seems to have a good shot that
he doesn't get to use enough,
great defensively, should
play in the top six

Top 6 forwards

Hyman: Good forechecker, good speed. Good IQ to put stick in passing lanes in both zones. Is strong down low and is a good puck retriever. Has shown at times to be tough to get puck off down low. Inconsistent shooter. Sometimes has a heavy shot, sometimes doesn't. Sometimes has good hands and has scored pretty goals, then fumbles the puck and misses tap ins. Think there is some untapped offensive upside but for now, a solid role forward, kills penalties well, is a solid all around top 9 forward.

Matthews: Franchise pivot. Elite size, hands, shooting ability, IQ, and very good skater who continues to get more explosive. Has shown to be very good defensively at times. Can take over a game. Reads play well, makes plays as a passer with sauce and touch when needed. One of those shooters that like the elite pitchers in baseball, has an assortment of shooting angles and body positioning when shooting. Sometimes shoots off back foot, sometimes front foot. His toe drag snap shot with speed has continued to be down right unstoppable. Uses a good stick to create turnovers rather than his body. Shields puck really well with good instincts in knowing where defenders are and how to use his body and gifted hands to make plays. Uses his feet really well to retrieve as well as protect puck. Potential top 5 NHL player.

Nylander: Elite skater. Breakaway speed. Elite hands. Among the best zone entry forwards in the game. Very confident with the puck, always has head up, and has a knack for consistently making tape to tape passes and putting shooters in a position to have a comfortable release. Has an elite shot himself that he needs to use more. He's very confident handling the puck but not all that confident lately shooting which I hope changes because his wrist shot, deceptive release and accuracy is up there. His first year in our losing season has shown that he has a very good slap shot too. Is very good defensively (I don't follow the trash narratives some of you guys make up in your heads). Uses speed, instincts and quick hands to create turnovers. Has good positioning. You'd like to see him be more consistent because he could be an elite defensive forward and potential PKer because of speed and IQ but for now a solid defensive player. Generates his offense from very good neutral zone play. He makes good reads and is so good with the puck entering the zone with speed, and usually on the film has a 2 read (run-pass option almost) where he either enters with speed and slows up with a spin to make a pass or sees Matthews with speed at the line entering O-Zone after having already backed up and drawn defenders towards him, leaving more room for Matthews to shoot. First line forward potential if he hasn't already reached that.

Marleau: Still has some solid speed, can occasionally make good plays but is more a complimentary top 9 forward than a line driver. Has a good shoot in which he gets off quickly and heavy. Decent hands more on breakaways and with space than in tight as he doesn't really hold puck down low as well as he used to, but still at NHL level. Is defensively conscious, is rarely caught out of position or leaving his man (D-Man) pinching to make a play in O-Zone. Is another weapon on the PP because with the additional space, a vet like him can still feel confident making plays with more ice, and has a shot on the right slot to keep PKs honest. Makes good decisions for the most part.

Kadri: At this point in his career is one of the better 2-way forwards in the game. Produces well and for the most part wins the match up vs the best lines in the NHL night in and night out. For all the flak he gets about the strength of his shot has been one of the best in the NHL in scoring goals and creating a volume of shots and second chance shooting opportunities. Has elite hands and vision. Consistently makes the right passing plays in the offensive zone which is why I would think we shouldn't ever be surprised if a 70 point + season happens because of an assist increase with better lineups and more Marner. When he wins the puck battle in the offensive zone, knows exactly where to go with the puck consistently, whether it be a chip sauce backhand back to the point or holding onto the puck and drawing defenders in to open things up. When he knows there isn't a play to be made, he gets the puck on net in a way that generates rebounds. His IQ and hands in tight as well as toughness allow him to be really effective scoring in between the hashes. Average skater when puck isn't on his stick but somehow generates speed and separation well when the puck is on his stick. Doesn't really do well defensively when the game is played in neutral zone because he's only an average skater without the puck but when in defensive zone has solid positioning, an active stick, and is physical. Doesn't shy away from contact, doesn't give up on fighting bigger stronger centers down low, and is confident with the puck to get it out of the zone once retrieved. Makes really good plays to enter offensive zone because of vision, speed with puck and elite hands. Needs to show more will in neutral zone skating without the puck because we can see him skate really fast one shift and then really slow the next shift. Sometimes makes really bad line changes. Versatile on power play because he can play half wall or in the middle on a diamond. The type of forwards that while not a franchise center, you need to win a championship with because he can play anywhere and bring skill and energy.

Marner: One of the most dynamic forwards in the NHL. His patience with the puck, ability to use his skating and feet while in-sync with his hands to keep defenders off balance and make skill moves through and around them is uncanny. Possesses breakaway speed. Plays the game with pace and makes plays with speed consistently. Continues to show that he can be an elite passer and the production has shown. Continues to be able to handle the puck with speed and skill through neutral zone and is important on the PP as he just cannot be stood up at the line. Loves to hold onto the puck for the extra second cutting from behind the net in, using his agility and inside edges to keep him balance and make him deceptive with a shooting or passing option. Has good speed and occasionally even great speed. Has shown this year that he's a threat to score goals because he is always in high danger areas to score goals. Has an accurate and quick release, and as he gets stronger will show a heavier shot. Isn't very good defensively yet but you hope he has the chance to be a great 2 way forward because he is fast, has good hands and IQ, and has shown at lower levels to have been a good defensive forward so you hope there is upside there. Turns over the puck at inopportune spots on the ice, has been sometimes weak in the defensive zone and not following the old adage of "playing heavy on the puck" when in his own zone, but in the offensive zone has shown to be a good down low because his strength comes from his balance on his skates and use of inside and outside edges. Has good hands and stick lift to keep puck in the offensive zone. First line forward potential if he hasn't already reached that.

doesn't eat popcorn like a pig, allows others to get to popcorn ahead of him. Sips his soda very quietly and when gets to the bottom doesn't allow it to make that dry sounding noise. all in all elite press box piece on a cup team
