u Ottawa is one of the oldest teams in the History of Canadian Hockey. RMC Queens and McGill have older programs. Very storied programs covering alot of History
I have been told that the hockey program at uOttawa had an annual budget of approx 400K dollars. Half of this total came from an Alumni group. The balance I imagine came from the school and whatever the team itself managed to raise. Apparently this Alumni Group requested the suspension of the hockey program be waived and that Hockey be reinstated for the 2014 2015 season. If not they would pull all sponsorship.
I think the uOttawa hockey program may be in serious jeopardy. As the school has already relegated the program to a Tier II status (this well prior to the teams suspesion) behind Football, Basketball (M/W) and Soccer (W), the school may find the cost of the program to exhorbitant to continue.
This whole mess was entirely avoidable. 124 years of Hockey and poof it will be gone.
