Things got tougher for the Devils in their second game of the season, but not tough enough to stop them from opening the season with back to back wins thanks to a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. Ilya Kovalchuck scored his third goal in two games with under ten minutes to go to win it for the Devils. Kevin Weekes was strong in net again, stopping 22 of 23 to get the win.

The Devils will fact a major test on Saturday night when they go into Ottawa to face the high powered Senators. Kevin Weekes will need to be sharp again, as the Senators are considered the favorites in the East. A win in Ottawa would be a major statement that the Devils are for real.

Notes: Winger Petr Bondra was injured in the first period but the team hopes to have him back in time for the game Saturday night.
