I hate how this message board is making me despise Auston Matthews. Seems like a good kid and a great hockey player, but you guys are seriously insufferable.

Because people are mad that Matthews is good and is recognized for being good for whatever reason

He's just one of the more controversial players in terms of rankings right now. Guys like Toews and Karlsson have been similar over their careers

i think Matthews is just about right, and if Laine's is almost as good as him, he should be higher so that'd be TSN's fault.

Yep, that's my point. I don't have much of a problem with Matthews at 10 although a tad high but if you have Matthews at 10, Laine has to be in the 12-15 range.

That's a decent enough list. There are a couple guys i'm pleasantly surprised to see getting recognition.
At least it's not as heavily recycled as some of them.

Not really when one missed games. Theoretically more voters could have thought Laine was the slightly better player but it was close enough that Matthews' full season put him ahead.

They made it clear that they're trying to predict who'll be #1 at the end of the season, not right now, in which case, McDavid is very reasonable. Just about everyone's expecting him to take home a second straight Art Ross at the very least.

Saying someone is the number 1 player two weeks before the season starts is the exact same thing. I don't see the difference.

I think the idea that Matthews is overrated on this list is kind of absurd, considering the season he put up. And I say that as someone who thinks Leaf fans are constantly overrating their own players.

40 goals as a rookie can't be ignored. 40 goals can't be ignored if you're a 10 year vet. It's top tier stuff.

Actually, looking over the list after my initial shock of Matthews 16 spots higher than Laine, I see something even more out of whack. Burns at 8 while Pietrangelo is at 45? OEL at 44? Suter at 46? Really?
