two things.

1. can the stepping down be a negotiating ploy with Washington to get a better contract?
2. Were there whispers of family issues that might make him take some time off?

...cause if not...the Islanders are the only other team without a coach right now.

There was a 2 year option that kicked in if he won a Stanley cup. It was only for a $300k raise which is nothing.

Elliotte Friedman reporting that both sides tried to negotiate an extension but they couldn’t come to an agreement so Washington is moving on and trotz is free to talk to other teams.

It’s going to come down to the almighty $$$$ let’s see if Mallon means business.

First line of Caps release, trying to make it looked like they wanted him to stay. Ha! We're on to your bull----!

"We are obviously disappointed by Barry's decision..."

Well holy turds. I was not expecting this. Tomorrow would be one hell of a Lousday if they announce signing Trotz and a JT extension.

When you're making 1.6 million, a 4 year 22 million offer would be hard to turn down
