The 2 main weaknesses of SF is their OL and CB. In 2021, had they just kept the 12th pick in the draft, Parsons ended up being the 12th pick. But, the player at #13 was Rashawn Slater of the Chargers. He would solidify the RT position and SF would have let McGlinchy go from his 5th year option. The next best CB would have been Farley who was injured in college or newsome who went to Cleveland in the late 20's. So, they were in a spot to try to trade down if possible.Tough break, not looking like a great return on investment for SF right now
It was. But, also a clear warning for NCAA QBS to stay in school until you are actually ready to compete and win a starting job in the NFL. A lot will be on your plate. Everything seemed lined up for Lance to be with a strong SF team that had a great run game, but they also demand that their QB step in and play well, not struggle with the system and have accuracy issues. It's a bummer because it's not his fault, but the dude has hardly played in years. This was the year he HAD to have. This really, really sucks for him.
Do you mean Lance should have stayed in school? He made a fortune already and will get ample opportunity to show his talent from 2023 onwards. It was. I was a bit surprised to see lance run between the tackles. Figured, if he was going to run, he'd be running out wide or if he did see a crease in the middle, he could take it and slide or get down before contact.
I do believe he would have been better prepared by staying in school for the nfl. Teams that draft high will play their rookie QB but there is going to be chaos and a bad team. Either bad OL or limited weapons. And or a bad defence. No easing your way in if you have even more to learn than most other rookie QBs who started 25 games in college in tougher conferences. Kid threw 318 passes in college. Higher expectations for Lance to perform in SF because the rest of the team is ready to win now.Do you mean Lance should have stayed in school? Problem isn't even the pick necessarily, it was giving up so much to move up to get him.The Shanahans always have had a mobile QB fetish. Kyle then got "touched" by Josh Allen's mojo and that just transformed his fetish into chasing for the next Mike Vick. Now he got burned.
Genius minds in terms of offensive scheme, threats to themselves when it comes to evaluating QBs.
Never will forget that Mike would "stake his reputation" on Rex Grossman and John Beck. Well, that drove a stake through Mike's heart.
(Should have taken Tom when you had the chance, Kyle).
They still don’t have their 1st next year from thatProblem isn't even the pick necessarily, it was giving up so much to move up to get him.
That is the price to move up especially given how late SF’s first last year ended up being. Miami went from 3 to 12. They gave up their first the following season to go from 12 to 6.Problem isn't even the pick necessarily, it was giving up so much to move up to get him.
That's right. Anyway, Garappalo is a more than capable QB (and perhaps an even better option than Lance would have been). The pick will likely not be too high - although the loss of it still stings. They still don’t have their 1st next year from that
Based on deals in the past it would have cost SF a minimum of an extra first to swap picks for a non QB like Miami and Philly deal for 12 to 6 and back with NO and GB when NO moved up to grab that DE a few years ago from the 20’s to like 12.That's right. Anyway, Garappalo is a more than capable QB (and perhaps an even better option than Lance would have been). The pick will likely not be too high - although the loss of it still stings.
It might be a simplistic view, but I don't really understand why the 49ers gave up so much for Lance specifically. In his draft year, he was rather an enigma than a blue-chip prospect. His main forte seemed to be his ability to run with the ball - but the 49ers had their rushing game covered. But obviously San Francisco wanted someone who might get them over the top.
