The corpse of Chris Kelly came back and played 4th line mins and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs, he passed along a lot of his knowledge to the kids, including some faceoff tips that were key to us doing so well against Bergeron and Crosby at the dot. I think there's value to be had for the team with Spezza here, and I think he full well knows he isn't a top 6 forward anymore.

Beaudin is better suited to 4th line mins, but Spezza imo has the potential to add long term value after he's gone based on the knowledge and experience he can pass on. If he's open to that role, I'd claim him in a heartbeat.

Valid point with Kelly. I'm just not sure Spezza is the right guy for that. I just don't know where I'd play him. Sure we could be a slow PP specialist, but we already have one of those, and he's sitting in the press box most nights. I just don't see what he brings to the table on the ice that Bobby Ryan can't.

Why would Spezza come here, he wants to win a Cup. He was here and wanted to stay but Melnyck wouldn’t pony up, why come back? Makes zero sense
There is only one 4th line center in the entire league that is going to win the cup this season
Spezza best chance to win it is in Ottawa management in 6-9 years imo

Does anybody have any updates on how Norris is doing this year? I did see something that was written recently that seems to indicate he's doing well and has handled his upgraded role in the lineup well.

Also, does anybody have an update on Logan Brown's injury and timeline for a return to the lineup?

Note - kind of Spezza related as both are centers.

Why would the Sens want him, they want speed, they have Logan Brown to run the PP and do blind pass giveaways and play weak neutral ice.

Spezza is a poor hockey player now, why would Ottawa bring him back?

The reason starts with a capital "T". :)

Norris is doing well in Belleville after a bit of a slow start. He has been given a bigger role since Brown was moved up. He likely stays in Belleville until they start moving bodies out at the TDL
Brown is week to week. UBI .. injury looked like nothing but we don't know if its a hand, thumb, wrist, elbow or shoulder

JC Beaudin doesn't need to be here. If the plan currently is for Beaudin to stay, bringing Spezz back and sending Beaudin down is a no brainer. I would much rather have Spezza around Logan Brown than Beaudin.
But there is still White and Balcers that need to play

I was a fierce Spezza defender. I would love nothing more than for him to be part of this. But him being on the ice, as much as it would be a fantastic piece of nostalgia and , seriously, can you imagine that first shift? The emotions, it would probably give me a major case of the goosebumps. All 9000 of us! It would be unbelievable, and he would do some magical things, in the heat of the moment. You can bet on that. But then what?

He chose Toronto over Ottawa, and I do not begrudge him of that. But him coming here would have cleaned up a few things, notably maybe the acquisition of Anisimov. Now, there are simply too many people to clear. Beaudin and Sabourin are easy, but after that, not so much

No problem with bringing Spezza back, I would make a few moves to make it work, but it is a good idea, especially at that price.

Start by trading Tierney for a RW like Josh Anderson in CBJ or Mathieu Joseph in Tampa or future assets (pick(s) and/or prospect(s)). Waive Boedker and send him down to the AHL if he is not claimed. Once healthy, you have:

Tkachuk-L.Brown-Anderson
Paul-Pageau-Duclair
Balcers-Namestnikov-White
Chlapik-Spezza-C. Brown

What is Babcok / Dubas doing over there?

How many bodies do they have to clear for Hyman? 3?

Spezza played his best game of the season against Philly (saved Leafs in shootout) and then he get scratched against LA Kings ? Now likely waived?

Assuming we were to claim Spezza:

Tkachuk-Brown-Duclair
Namestnikov-Tierney-White
Paul-Pageau-Brown
Chlapik-Spezza-Balcers

Sent to Belleville: Beaudin
Sent to the moon: Ryan, Ennis, Boedker,Anisimov

Tierney or Pageau will likely be traded at the deadline, that eventually opens up a spot for Batherson, alternatively, Chlapik could come out. There will be injuries along the way, so it may not come to that.
I suspect Namestnikov is a temporary piece and will be moved too.

I would easily trade Pageau for a 2020 1st if it’s offered. Maybe he’ll come back home in the off-season?

He's the perfect piece for a contender. A center who will play the hard playoff style, can defensively carry his own against Sidney Crosby, can provide secondary scoring, and also can be slotted in with skilled players in the top 6. Incredibly valuable player.

There's zero chance we re-sign him because he's going to get 5-6 million as a UFA. He's traditionally a 4.5M type player, but the cap is going up and he's having a hot season. Someone will splurge. Dorion already said in the past that Pageau put a high value on his UFA years with his last contract.

Also, what are the odds that he wants to stay here in a rebuild?

Pageau is a goner. We have a lot of centers and even though it kills me to let Pageau go, I think the return should be very interesting and bottom line is we should have plenty of options at C going forward.

Other than Pageau, natural centers on this team:

White
Anisimov
Tierney
Paul
Namestnikov
Brown
Chlapik
Beaudin

Then you have Norris who likely gets some games at one point or Swarz.

Would assume by year end Brown, White hold 2 spots.

Then one spot for Anisimov who we likely won't be able to trade. Then other could be Chlapik if Tierney is traded as well.

If you’re doing a proper rebuild you trade Pageau. I mean, he’s a much lesser player than Stone and Karlsson and those guys were traded...

Everyone should be happy he’s playing the way he is because he’s really raising his value.

Three 1sts in this draft would be huge. Three 2nds too? Woah.

A career bottom 6 forward putting up insane numbers in a contract year with an unsustainable shooting %? Hmmmmm where have I Zack Smithed this before?

Pageau isn't just any regular bottom 6 forward. Comparing him to Smith is weak. He's more a Lars Eller.

I am one of the biggest Pageau fans from the start, but on a stanley cup contender he is a 3rd line center, and as such is Lars Eller. If we can get him locked up for $3.5M for 4-5 years like Eller then I am all for it. But if he's asking for $4.5M+ on a long term deal, then give me that 1st rounder baby.
