Not saying I like it, just my prediction.

I think he'll make a trade for someone we don't expect. Why do I say that? When he has no track record of it? Well, because we have all lost complete faith in him and his incompetence; therefore, something will happen.

For that reason, I think it's impossible to make a line up but for the sake of it, I'll just put XXX where I think the new guy will slot.

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Yakupov
XXX-Plekanec-Gallagher
Shipachev-Eller-Andrighetto
Carr-Danault-Byron

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Petry
Barbario-Pateryn

I think Desharnais is gone and probably one Scherbak/McCarron and a 2nd round pick. I also could see Emelin for Yakupov. Mitchell will be the 13th forward and Flynn will be waived and picked up by someone.

We need much more of an overhaul.

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Ladd-Plekanec-Yakupov
Carr-Eller-Ghetto
Danault-Mitchell-Byron

*Trade DD to Carolina for 4th/5th rnd
Trade Emelin to Edmonton for Yakupov
Sign Ladd to 4 year/6M per
=+900k to our cap

Draft one of Chychrun, Juolevi, Dubois *in that order IF available - unlikely

D-Pairings

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Petry
Juolevi-Pateryn

^I realize Markov is not a perfect 1D. My hope would be that Beaulieu moves into that slot.

Goalies

Price otherwise just forfeit. Apparently we CANT win without him-MB.

Sign Ladd 5 yr 6M
trade for Nichushkin (Emelin+Andreghetto+2016 MTL 2nd)
trade DD to anyone for a mid level pick

Draft (in order of BPA...IMHO) Dubois/Chychrun/Tkachuck/McLeod (none would likely be NHL ready for at least 1-2 yrs)

Pacioretty - Chucky - Gallagher
Ladd - Pleks - Nichushkin
Hudon - Eller - Carr
Matteau - Daneault - Mitchell

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu - Petry
Barberio - Pateryn

Most of us seem to be on a similar page.

Sign 1 UFA and trade for 1 'bargain' player ie: Nuke/Yak who is currently valued lower than his potential.

Okposo would interest me as well if we can trade for a LW. I don't think it's feasible (or smart financially) to sign two top UFAs

Listening to MB and MT yesterday, it's pretty obvious that there will not be major changes and a big UFA signing.

I'm hopeful that we have something like this...

Patches - Chucky - Gally
UFA - Eller - Guetto
Carr - Plekanec - UFA
Danault - Mitchell - Byron
Lessio-Hudon

I'm realistic in thinking it will be

Patches - Chucky - Gally
Carr - Plekanec - Guetto
Danault - DD - (Player acquired for Eller)
Flynn - Mitchell - Byron
Lessio-Brown

Eller will be traded for a top 9 right winger... Burrows or something... and MT will be very happy.

I pick Ladd as he is likely the exact player MB would chase before Okposo....I just see Okposo looking for 7M. it's a guess, but we'll see. Yak is a bargain no doubt, but Nich fits more MB's style of player type.

It's really simple really. Scoring is an obvious deficinecy, adress that. signing a UFA without hurting the cap flexibility isn't hard. and, you have tradeable bottom 6 assets with potential to use for upgrading.

I see a very busy draft week ahead

Bergevin clearly states that top UFAs are too expensive. Very much doubt he signs a top flight forward. Unfortunately, expect more tinkering on the bottom 6 according to what he said.

That being said, guys like Eller and Guetto will be trade bait for bottom 6 wingers.

Bergevin has a ton of assets/picks to trade for help, I'm not putting too much stock into his comments yesterday. If UFAs and other GMs know he's desperate for scoring help, that'll be more leverage to ask for more $ and more assets.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
JVR - Plekanec - Andrighetto
Eller - Shipachyov - Carr
Danault/Lessio/Matteau - Mitchell - Byron

Markov - Subban
Emelin - Petry
Beaulieu - Pateryn
Barberio

Unless we win a top 3 spot in the draft, I'd try to trade the pick for someone who can help us now.

- JVR to the Leafs for our 1st, Desharnais (to eat salary) and a mid-tier prospect or pick for them taking DD
- Sign Shipachyov and play him 3rd line to start the year with PP time

Bergevin if their is a player your scouts covet like Pierre-Luc Dubois then move up and get him trade your 1st rounder this year and next throw in a prospect JDLR even if it's to move up just 3 or 4 spots it is worth it to get a good player.

he also said he tried to make bold trades but trades for top players only happen on playstation.

We need a RW Badly...Eriksson and Okposo are my choices!

That would be great. In the likely event we don't land one of the top FA's, Stempniak would be a solid signing. He's a guy we could probably count on for about 20g/20a and he'd be relatively cheap and short term. He wouldn't be the solution to our offensive problems, but I think he could be a smart addition in combination with another move.

I like that Drouin deal, but it seems a little too rich for TB to do with a team they despise like MTL

Why not go after yak and Nuke and see if one puts it together if they are cheap to acquire. They both have skill so why not

3. Go all out for Andrew Ladd or Loui Eriksson.

4. Sign a reliable extra defender (Eric Gryba, Kevan Miller, David Schlemko).

Some people want Nail Yakupov, but i would never trade for a player like Yakupov...

I'm rather have a 2nd round pick than Yakupov.

I dont know about him being cheap after the numbers he put up this year but I agree, it is worth exploring just like Kyle Palmieri.

I wouldn't put any stock into what was said at the press conference. They shouldn't even hold one, since there's no way they are going to be 100% honest when all that would be is weaken their position with other GM's. That doesn't mean they will do anything this summer, as I have no idea what their plan is. I know they don't have much cap space so in order to add anything big then some guys have to go. If they do nothing then I would expect a short playoff run as this team clearly needs more talent.

it is always an exercise in platatudes. they will say alot of nothing, and even if they say they will definately do one thing, when they actually do the opposite they will simply say they re-evaluated

if Matt Martin hits free agency, i bet MB makes him a considerable offer... repeat of the Prust signing in his first year as GM (which, imo, was probably his best move).

would be a nice addition, but we'd have to do something about the glut of 4th line players.

No we don't, you just slide them up to the 2nd line. :sarcasm:

Bury Flynn, replace with Matt Martin.
