Matt Martin is due a 1.5M signing bonus on July 1st after that his salary is 750k and the following year he also has a salary of 750k and a 1M signing bonus.

His cap hit is 2.5M, he has kept the peace for our team but with some bigger contracts coming up, it will be hard to justify a 2.5M cap hit on the 4th line.

Yep, that is why I said after July 1st of this year, that way the new team only has to worry about a 750k salary next year and then 750k salary and 1M signing bonus.

Done, pretty much what I figured any deal would look like and that he would be happy going back to the Islanders.

I think that the Isles will re-sign both. Toronto is my #2 location for Tavares if he doesn't end up back with the Islanders.

Played around with some scenarios 2-3 years out with Tavares around 10-11M per, it's do-able.

seems very unlikely a player of his caliber would throw a guaranteed 11 mil for 7 years out the window
