Per cap friendly he has a Euro assignment clause. So he's electing to go back to the KHL instead of down to the Marlies. Understandable.

He showed some flashes, but didn't really steal a spot.

They could have sent Clifford down without waivers if they wanted.
Really he just didn’t have a spot here. Limited sample size but Semyonov just didn’t impress when he had the chance.

And with Mrazek coming back on the next week we aren’t going to have the cap space for anything but 1 extra forward. Mikheyev will be back not long after him and at that point we will have to make some real tough roster decisions. Either a Dman or Engval will have to go to become cap compliant unless a separate move is made.

I'm ok with it. He was pretty much invisible, and the team seems to want to keep Clifford up.

He makes 80k USD in the AHL. He can make a lot more in the KHL, especially when your factor in the difference in the cost of living.
