Getting rid of that contract was going to cost them.

They still have time and assets to get one or more back either now or at the trade deadline. If they are out of a playoff spot come trade deadline they can dangle, Muzzin, Andersen, Nylander , Kadri and get a decent return.

What was Dubas thinking? How can he not draft in the 1st round two years straight?

This is "draft shmaft" all over again.

Without a 1st round pick in either this draft or the next one we are going to end up with a very shallow prospect pool unless we manage to hit on some later picks.

In 5 months dubas has traded away two 1st picks.
