Hey all, I'm trying to get into the AHL more and I'm looking for players I should be watching mainly and just to get to know the teams better. If you got a min please give me the top 5 players of your team/who to watch for & tell me what's good about them.

Cheers all!

Well it kind of depends on what you're looking for. You could be looking for the top 5 BEST AHL only players on each team or you could be looking for the top 5 "players to watch" which I'd say is more or less the guys you expect to play in the NHL at some point.

Hershey's 5 Best AHL players:
1) Mike Sgarbossa (AHL #1C)
2) Christian Djoos (NHL caliber #6 or #7 D, Stanley Cup Champion with Washington)
3) Matt Moulson (Former NHL 30 goal scorer)
4) Pheonix Copley (Backup in Washington last year, having a major down year though)
5) Tyler Lewington (Physical, Top pairing AHL D)

Washington's 5 Best Prospects in Hershey:
1) Martin Fehervary (Grooming into an all situations defender)
2) Alex Alexeyev (Big defenseman with a very nice shot)
3) Beck Malenstyn (Fast, physical winger who is a big time penalty killer)
4) Joe Snivley (Small, skilled forward and a great skater)
5) Vitek Vanecek (Should be an NHL backup somewhere next season)

Providence

1. Urho Vaakanainen - D (Touted as Boston's future top pairing defenseman)
2. Paul Carey -LW (veteran AHL scorer)
3. Trent Frederic - C (bruising power forward)
4. Jack Studnicka - C (rookie power forward)
5. Peter Cehlarik - LW (fast skill player, will probably be trade bait at the deadline)

Belleville

1. Drake Batherson - RW
2. Logan Brown - C
3. Erik Brannstrom - D
4. Josh Norris - C
5. Vitaly Abramov - LW/RW

Rudolfs Balcers and Alex Formenton are very, very close to that list. Filip Chlapik as well but he's probably in the NHL full time by the deadline, same with Batherson and Balcers.

They probably join Belleville for the playoffs though.

Milwaukee
Milwaukee

1. Daniel Carr #29. He was the AHL MVP last season for Chicago. He is still lighting the red light.
2.Tommy Novak #17. He is third in scoring on the team and is 20 years old.
3. Alexandre Carrier #55, the top Dman in Milwaukee.
4. Rem Pitlick #16. An AHL Rookie and a big scoring surprise.
5. Yakov Trenin #13. He has played 21 games Nashville this season, scoring 6 points. I expect to see him full time in the NHL next season.

Honorable Mention: Connor Ingram #39. He has a 1.92 GAA with a .933 Save % and is 22 years old.

SJ Barracuda 2020-2021
1) Ryan Merkley
2) Sasha Chmelevski
3) John Leonard
4) Alexei Melnichuk
5) Brinson Pasichnuk

2019-2020
1) Maxim Letunov (lets see, maybe Sharks don't qualify him)
2) Noah Gregor (probably permanent Shark now)
3) Joachim Blichfeld (probably make the sharks next year)
4) Alex True (also staying with sharks now)
5) Sasha Chmelevski (rough start with injury, 13p in final 15 games)

We had a weird season as did the Sharks. When PDB got fired, long time baby sharks HC got called up to NHL. Our captain, McCarthy had a stroke, retired then became an assistant coach. Just a weird, weird year in SJ.
