Mats Sundin has to be near the top when it comes to the most finishes in the top 40 in scoring since '67. He finished in the top 40 in scoring 16 times in 18 seasons.

Yes, Neely (and Gillies) with 3 seasons each - the lowest among non-defensive forwards (excluding Gainey and Carbonneau), excluding players who started pre expansion (technically Howe is listed here, only from 1968 onwards), and excluding players who spent their prime outside of the NHL (Nedomansky). Shutt is next with 5.
I know we've debated Turgeon (13 times) before. If he ends up in the Hall, next up would be Eric Staal and Nicklas Backtrom (11 times each).
I think Backstrom will be the next highest as he has perhaps several more top 40 finishes left in him, Staal is at 11 and will stay there.

You could collect a lot of cash in bar bets with this list. For example, rank the following Bruin players in top 40 finishes: Middleton, Bergeron, Marchand, McNab, Neely, Stanfield, Cashman, Pie McKenzie, Pederson. I doubt if Joe Hockey fan is listing them:

Nice to see that Ovi has done it every year of his career, and will get his 15th this season (barring a major injury). Last season, 40th was 74 points, so assuming a similar scoring environment, Ovi could keep up another 2 seasons after this one, matching him with Jagr for 17 times.

I could see both Crosby and Ovechkin finishing top 3 in this list. Agreed - very impressive

Assuming that 40th place remains to be 70-75 points, I assume Ovi can stay at or above that level for a few more years.

Some top guys that didn't make it in 2021: Boeser, Barzal, Ovechkin, Toffoli, Giroux, Stamkos, M.Tkachuk, RNH, Malkin.
Notable misses in 2019-20: Hoffman, Gaudreau, Bergeron, Backstrom, Giroux, Kuznetsov, Seguin, Crosby, Benn, Couture.
It's hard to keep up that consistency.

Players who didn't finish in the top 40 in 2022: Tavares, Scheifele, Kucherov, A.Svechnikov, E.Pettersson, Point, Landeskog, Kopitar. It doesn't sound like much but it's tough. A guy like Tomas Hertl had kind of a breakthough year, is looking at a big contract, and played every game. He finished 68th in scoring.

By my count, Oveckin now stands at 16 seasons with Crosby and Kane both at 15, and all 3 are still going strong.

32 teams league, being a top 40 scorer mean being the kind of player that lead a team in scoring or second on a team with a really strong teammate.
You can be full elite like Kaprizov but miss a bit too much game and miss or the second you start to age even of a superbe line like Marchand you get kick out.

While most people rate Modano as better than Sundin, 5 more seasons of being top 40 for the big Swede is not something to scoff at.
It also shows the greatness of Crosby, Overchkin and Kane. And that Tavares and Backstrom managed to carve out some really great success with 12 seasons.
