You must be in love/whipped to turn down millions for a girl.
He's going to be getting millions to play in Owen Sound?
At #31 overall, I suspect
at best he'd be getting $2 million over 3 years for his entry-level contract ...
if he played in the NHL the entire time. He wouldn't - he'd get more like $45K the first year in the AHL, $50K the 2nd year in the AHL plus maybe a small piece of his NHL contract, and then in the 3rd year some (probably not all just yet) of his NHL contract. Adding in the signing bonus he'd get, he
might realize $1 million at best off his ELC ... and it'll still be there in May 2008. It's not like he's gaining or losing money by not making the jump to NA now.
And before anyone starts comparing this to Schwarz ... Marek went back over b/c of his girlfriend and was told by Sparta Praha that he was going to be the #1 goalie. He got there, and was then told that he would be the backup no matter what. (Schwarz signed a contract with the Blues on June 1.)
This isn't the worst news possible, but it's apparently something the Blues are going to have to do more research on in the future if they want to avoid situations like this.
