Im wondering if finding a middle man team in a Freddie Anderson trade makes the most sense to increase his value, and the Leafs can flex their financial muscle a bit.
-----------------
For example, Carolina and Detroit.
Carolina gets Freddie @2.5m, with 500k cash
Detroit (who is the middle team) pays 500k of Freddies salary, takes on 2.5m against the cap.
Trades to Toronto Picard (800k AHL salary) + McIlrath/Lashoff (275k AHL salary). Replace them with upcoming younger guys whos ELC's mean AHL cash of 70k.
Gets from Toronto an AHL guys who needs a change of scenery, but has good potential in Bracco.
Detroit saves roughly 435k in cash
The question becomes what does it cost the Leafs to get a team like Detroit to add 2.5m in cap space, if it also means they save in actual dollars? Is a guy like Bracco enoguh?
At the trade deadline the Leafs got a 5th for taking on 2.5m of Lehners contract.
----------------
I guess the reason I went down this path was to try and find a way to make Andersons already cash cheap contract cap cheap as well, but in a way the Leafs dont need to retain themselves.
Thoughts?
