I would pay $20/mo to add local team access to NHL.tv (RIP) or even ESPN+. But Bally is an unmitigated disaster. Every time I tried to open the app on my TV last season, it would literally stop responding to the buttons on the remote. I was never able to even hover over the game I wanted to watch, let alone open it. The app would freeze up every time I tried. I wasn’t the only one having issues - I think the App Store rating was something like 1.5 the last time I looked.

This was on a completely unadulterated Apple TV player which has no issues with any other app I’ve tried. It’s not me, it’s them. And if they have that much trouble getting a stable release of the app on my TV, I have no faith in their ability to offer a competitive product. It makes less than zero sense to pay a $20 monthly fee for the privilege of being frustrated by their developers.

Still sticking with Spectrum until a less bad option comes along.

Yup, I went back and forth about going "untethered" but couldn't find a reasonable answer to my Canes addiction. So I just stayed with cable.

If this were my younger and poorer days I imagine I'd have to go the 'alternate' route. Now I console myself by figuring cost per game price and then it doesn't seem as bad.

What really bites is the rig-a-marole of not being able to watch all the games with one service. That and Bally pricing themselves out of streaming services so that you end up with either the crappy Bally app or going with Spectrum sucks balls.

$20/mo is the correct price for a sports streaming service that isn't absolute clown shoes.

This is not that.

Bally’s itself, or the actual streaming service?

I haven’t subscribed yet, but $20/mo is more than reasonable if it means avoiding an entire cable subscription. Is there something really wrong with the app or something?

Edit: just saw @Finnish Jerk Train ’s reply

When Google Fiber stopped providing TV, I went to stream DirectTV and get Bally on that. I didn't want to go back to Spectrum (TimeWarner) as I had a lot of trouble with them. So far, things have been good on DirectTV

This is what I've been using as well. I split a subscription with a friend which has worked for a couple of years now.

Yep, just no in-market games aside from the insta-losses national broadcast exclusives
For the first 2 weeks last season they let us watch all the games and then randomly cut it off like they forgot to close the gate to the playground

Bally - 71
ESPN+/Hulu - 6
TNT - 3
ESPN - 2

You'll also need ESPN and TNT for the 2nd round of the playoffs and beyond :crossfing.

Bally + Hulu BF Offer (.99/1.99 per month for a year) + a few months worth of whatever streaming service carries ESPN Networks and Turner Networks is probably the cheapest legal path to accessing all of the games.

$20 per month for only the Hornets and Canes is a non-starter for me. Could be the best streaming service available, but I ain't paying $20 for that.
Yeah...not paying $20 per month to watch the Canes and only the Canes. Now if it came with all the sports "local" to me, maybe. But those packages are nonsense.
