The Utah team should be called ...

Outlaws sounds good, but then you remember it's Utah. It has the reputation of being a no fun state. I've never been, so who knows if it's justified. But I think that's the image most of us have of it, so the Outlaws, while it sounds good at first hearing, doesn't really hold up when you think about it for a few seconds.

If you look into it for more than a few seconds it actually works. Utah is where Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch would hideout. The "robber's roost".

Utah history is ultra weird and bloody. And the fact that all of that is a century or more ago is good for a name, you don't want to remind the world of a more recent history of violence, that's a lot less fun. e.g. The Washington Bullets.

True, but sharing a name with a team in another sport hasn't been a problem for the Panthers, Rangers, Kings, or Jets, and wasn't a problem with the Oilers back when they overlapped.

Honest question for anyone: Why/why not would it be an issue ? I had to search it to make sure, but Foley ran into the issue of not being able to name his team the Vegas Golden Knights.

This is actually the thing I really like about Outlaws. Utah as a state could really benefit from a “brand enhancement” and the new team could be a part of that. It could be something for the local community to rally around as a way of thinking about themselves.

Utah Outlaws sounds badass, Utah Yetis sounds goofy. I know which one I would strongly prefer as a fan.

I like the Utah Scorpions. But that's not been mentioned anywhere - closest has been Venom, and even with that, I don't think they end up using a Scorpion in the logo.
