I remember reading it, I think it was at an All-Star game but it could have been the 1980 WS when the Phillies played KC. I found the quote but it didn't give a date or location.

Has there ever been a different format? I've been a part of these for a while and can't remember doing anything other than a shared name?

^ We had a few different formats including numbers but that had limited input once we got into the unfamiliar terrain (10 vs. 63 for instance).

We did a last letter of the last name should match the following first letter of the first name. Example: Gordie Howe and Ernie Banks.
