A win for the Rangers tonight in their final game of the season vs. Ottawa would result in a simultaneous clinching of the Metropolitan Division, Eastern Conference, and the Presidents’ Trophy. A loss of any sort would likely result in the loss of all of those.

Has a scenario like this ever occurred before?

Hate to break it to you, but the presidents trophy winner always wins the conference and their division. Whenever there is a strong division, there is a possibility of the top 2 teams in the league (point wise) being from the same division.

They can lose the PT, the conference but not the Metro. It's unlikely because the Canes would have to lose to the Blue Jackets.

Winning the cup in game 7 simultaneously means you've won the series and also eliminated another team. A loss means you've lost the cup, lost the series and have been eliminated from the playoffs
