No, the CBA is pretty clear that those 3 "professional seasons" must occur while under an NHL contract:

They don't hold his rights forever. They held his rights for 4 years from the draft, and once he agreed to an ELC they got his rights until he was 27.
Thanks for the clarification. I read it incorrectly and was focusing on 3 pro season playing 3 pro seasons in any professional league and missed the part about while being under NHL contract.

Well at least that's a positive.

The best thing that could happen would be for his KHL team to struggle financially and (like several teams) be chronically late in paying him.

Sorry to have started this discussion.

I agree with you. On re-reading Article 10.1 of the CBA, BFG won't be an NHL UFA until 2022.

Group 3-7 accrued seasons (those must NHL seasons) or age 27 as of June 30 at the end of a league year. He was born in August, 1994, so won't become a Group 3 UFA until the June 30 following August, 2021-which means June 30, 2022.

Group 5-he won't have 10 professional seasons under a SPC before June 30, 2022.

Group 6-as you say, requires the seasons be under a SPC, and he'll only have 2 of those. He'd need 3 to be a group 6 UFA.

Thanks for pointing this out, and to LeftCoast for pointing out the game requirement for a professional season.
You have nothing to be sorry about you helped bring clarity to a fairly complex issue

Aaron Luchuk, a player the Canucks invited to the Prospects tournament, is killing it in the OHL. Funny didn't look that good at the tournament.

He looked awful. Skates like Hodgson but worse - short legs and awful choppy strides.

That said, yeah what a crazy start for him. 33 points in 17 games on a team where the 2nd leading scorer has 15 points.

Seems like there are a few players with crazy numbers in the CHL this year. Is offense up overall or is it just a crazy random spike?

So lots of positive starts to the season for our prospects. Who is having the most disappointing season so far?

Molino and Carcone have both been disappointing to me.

At 23 years of age, Molino needed to make an immediate impact in the AHL to maintain some aura of future NHL viability. Looking like a rare miss out of the college ranks. Hopefully can at least develop into a quality AHL-level player at this point.

Carcone is a bizarre player. Absolutely dominated in an NHL pre-season game, but can't ever dominate at the AHL level? I was expecting him to take a big step. Still a little bit of time left for him, but he needs to start producing ASAP.

All three of Lind, Gadjovich, and DiPietro mentioned as possibilities for World Junior Team Canada roster:

World Junior selection process ramps up

excerpt:
"The battle for right wing positions could be particularly heated. Beyond Raddysh and Kyrou, strong challenges are expected to be mounted from Tippett, if he's made available, and Vegas Golden Knight prospect Nick Suzuki of the Owen Sound Attack. Diminutive (5-foot-7, 155 pounds) Calgary Flames prospect Matthew Phillips of the Victoria Royals has been dynamic and prolific this season in the WHL and will get a long look, as will Vancouver Canuck prospect Kole Lind of Kelowna, Montreal Canadien prospect Will Bitten of the Hamilton Bulldogs and Florida Panther prospect Adam Mascherin of the Kitchener Rangers."

"On the left side, beyond Dube, the competition appears wide open. Vancouver prospect Jonah Gadjovich of Owen Sound, Tampa prospect Boris Katchouk of the Soo Greyhounds, Ottawa prospect Alex Formenton of the London Knights and St. Louis prospect Tanner Kaspick of Brandon are all viable candidates. Technically, so are Edmonton Oiler prospect Tyler Benson of the Vancouver Giants and Detroit Red Wing prospect Givani Smith of the Guelph Storm, although injuries have hampered them greatly. Benson has played in only four games this season; Smith has yet to play because of a high-ankle sprain."

"In goal, if we assume one spot goes to returnee Hart, the battle for the other spot is between Vancouver prospect Michael DiPietro of the Windsor Spitfires, Edmonton prospect Dylan Wells of Peterborough, Edmonton prospect Stuart Skinner of Lethbridge and undrafted Samuel Harvey of Rouyn-Noranda.
All but DiPietro are in their final year of junior eligibility. DiPietro and Harvey have been dominating the OHL and QMJHL respectively this season."

Canucks seem to loading up on wingers who can rifle the puck....that pp snipe by Lind was an NHL-caliber shot......Given the Canucks thin left side I can see this kid arriving in the NHL a lot sooner than many think.

Watched lind, i wouldnt call his shot nhl caliber.

His ability to use his teammates to enter the zone is elite though. Lind is a master of the drop pass.

Gunarasson was a weird pick at the time and hasn't done anything to change that this year
