Barry Bonds and Roger Clemons will get sympathy votes since it’s their final year of eligibility.

A-Rod I think will suffer the same fate as those two as he was on the juice.

Ortiz will be interesting, depends on how the voters view him with his past failed drug test.

Rolen will get more votes, same with Kent.

Schilling will probably get in

Who SHOULD get in? Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, A-Rod, Rolen, Ortiz.

Who WILL get in? Maybe Ortiz.
Rolen is trending to get in in the next few years though, similar to Larry Walker, Tim Raines and Edgar Martinez.

Ortiz getting in first time around would be some what of a joke. It took Martinez, the best DH of all time, 9 years.

He'll probably get in at some point due to the Boston media endlessly pumping his tires but he should have to wait a while, he is FAR from a lock or first ballot player.

They should hold Ortiz to the same standard there going to hold A-Rod to RE PEDs.

It'd be such a joke if Selig got in right away and A-Rod did not.

That’s why I’m gonna blow my top if the baseball writers put Ortiz in the first try cause he sucked so much baseball writers ass that they’ll say ‘hey I liked him!’

Bonds and Clemens have only been moving upwards by 1%-2% per year the last few years.

They are currently at 61.8% and 61.6%. They each have a lot of ground to make up in their final year of eligibility.

I could see both being left-off, and their Hall of Fame decision being made by the Eras Committee (Veterans Committee).

As much as it may be disappointing to have a year with 0 inductees, this is better than what you see in hockey.

Hockey turns the Hall of Fame induction into a weekend-long event. Because of this, I think the voters feel like they need to induct 4-5 new members every year so that they are able to fill up an entire weekend.

By inducting 4-5 members every year, it has diluted the Hall of Fame, and has caused less than elite players to get inducted.

There are players in the Hockey Hall of Fame who I don't think were ever top 50 players in the league at any point during their career.

i'd be interested to see your list of HHOF players not in the top 50 at any point.

Even Tommy McCarthy and Jesse Haines peaked at #5 in their own leagues (which were not the only top-level pro league at the time - McCarthy in particular played in the 1890's American Association, which was somewhat inferior to the National League - think the WHA compared to the NHL).

There's no evidence his failed drug test was even for PEDs. They tested for both legal and illegal supplements, including stuff you could walk into GNC and buy. They also never officially released any results such as what the players tested positive for.

And anyone claiming "But DH isnt a position" should be making sure Mariano Rivera gets removed from the hall. After all, relievers aren't real pitchers they only throw 60 innings a year

It was a crime it took Edgar Martinez his final year to get in the HOF.

Ortiz will get in sooner than Edgar just because of the fact he's basically a folkhero in Boston.

Love it or hate it Big Papi elevated his game when it came time for October baseball. Edgar had the unfortunate curse of playing with a Mariners team that wasted his and several others careers.

Not saying I agree with it but I can understand why it'll probably pan out like this

Let's be fair too, Ortiz was a slugger and he amassed historic totals.

17th all time in HR (541)
12th all time in doubles (632)
22nd all time in RBI (1,768)
26th all time in slugging (.552)
8th all time in extra base hits (1,192)

Like you mentioned he has ridiculous playoff numbers.

Career World Series stats (14 games)

.455/.576/.795
1.372 OPS
3 HR
14 RBI

Yeah I'm not saying Ortiz isn't worthy by any stretch. Just pointing out how hypocritical the voters committee is.
