The flu should not be confused with the winter bug.

I haven't had the flu this year - I just had a nasty reaction to the flu shot. I generally don't get the flu shot for that reason - I ALWAYS have a nasty response to immunizations - but I had a visitor coming from Brazil, and wasn't willing to put her at risk. But of course, during her visit, I still came down with a nasty bug anyway, while she stayed completely healthy.

Point taken on the norovirus vs the influenza... I know better, but I still call the norovirus the flu... it's just what I've always called it, and what most people around here will vernacularly call it.

As for the flu shot itself... it's a tough one for me. I believe in things like herd immunization... and I would hate to think I was responsible for getting someone else sick, especially if their health was more vulnerable - but at the same time, it's hard to do something that I know is going to leave me feeling like crap for several days when I also know that it's a best guess attempt at immunization.
