The fact the Jets have the highest point percentage in the Central while having no players that are PPG is scary

It makes sense though, they are worse offensively vs. most of the teams in the division, but are better defensively and the defensive lead they have seems to be more significant than the offensive gap. They've given up 158 goals and no other team in the division has given up less than 204.

The have a team-wide .920 save% while the next best teams have a .913. That’s a massive gap which easily accounts for and exceeds their offensive struggles.

But it also looks “scary” for their postseason outlook. Teams need to be well-rounded to make a deep run. All-defense teams are just as likely to hit an ill-timed slump as all-offense teams.

Team is the same as they've been for the last while IMO. They go exactly as far as Hellebuyck takes them.

That might be all the way.

It’s always possible, but star goalies have a long history of carrying a team into the 3rd or 4th round before falling flat. Think 1998 Hasek, 2003 Giguere, 2023 Bobrovsky. Those guys were almost literally unbeatable and it still wasn’t enough.

Isn't Rick the current longest serving coach in the NHL right now? He's been in the league for 20+ years.

As a Jets fan I can appreciate the nod from some in Helle's play. But to say it is because of him or the team will only go as far as he takes them is categorically false. For the most part, the team has been terrific on break outs, pressuring puck carriers, and cycle work down low. The team deploys layers of support in defending which makes it hard to play against. This is also a reason why LB's numbers are fantastic as well, because it doesnt really matter who is in net. There is an Achilles heal to Bone's system and we saw that earlier this year: when it does not work, it really does not work. The actual scary part for Jets' fans is to overcome the adversity in the playoffs and stick with the system. If they do that then they will be hard to play against and more likely to win.

I think this kind of undersells the talent they have up front though. I wouldn't even say they are having "offensive struggles" as much as I would say, they haven't played to their full offensive potential

I guess I would ask why you feel that way.

-Schiefele’s actually having a rebound year, as far as points production, and he’s on the wrong side of 30.
- Morrissey is having the second-most productive year of his career.
- Ehlers’ season is career typical.
- Connor’s coming off a major midseason injury and will still have one of the best goal-scoring seasons of his career.
- Niederreiter’s season has been career typical, and he is past the age where that can be taken for granted.
- Monahan has been career-typical since the trade.
- Toffoli has been great since the trade and will finish with one of the best seasons of his career.

Which of these guys is leaving something significant on the table? It’s a pretty average group offensively, and they’re getting pretty average results compared to expectations. Monahan and Toffoli give them a little more pop than they had to start, but that seems about it.

If anything, it’s a group that seems like it could easily run into slumps or injury problems. Remember this team was supposed to be on the bubble, not leading their division. Defense and goaltending have been the difference maker for a team that’s otherwise playing to expectations.

Yes 37 is undoubtedly the best goaltender in the league but if you think it’s just him how do you explain Laurent Brossoits 1.99GAA and 927 save percentage In nearly 20 games played. Surely the Jets defensive system has been great.

Statistically at least the Jets are a good team defensively yes. Hovering around the top 10 in the league in shots, chances, and expected goals against. Elite goaltending has elevated what would be good but not great GA numbers to bar none best in the NHL.

But hey I'm not in here trying to slag the Jets really. Goalies are paid to play too and nobody worth listening to is questioning Hellebuyck's pedigree.

It just goes to show you that village burning is a team effort, you can't have one guy carrying the kindling, oil and matches, you need many arson loving SOBs to start many fires. That is the true art of Hockey, one that unfortunately has been lost as most teams rely on one or two arsonists nowadays.
