Obvious statement is obvious.
What do the Habs D do to us? Back up or stand us up?

Knowing that we are going to be playing a puck retrieval system agains them it makes perfect sense to bring in slower, smaller players with limited grit and ability to win board battles? Answer is partly reflected in the score today.

I agree. We should go out and add a bunch of really good, really skilled, really fast, really gritty, really big players. Should be easy enough to do.

Obviously you can't get all categories without getting a superstar like Benn, but you can't ice guys that are the exact opposite: slow, not gritty and small.

Exactamundo.

Talbot is "small" but he's the same height as Bergeron. It's not about height, it's about talent.

The team was missing 3 of its best offensive Fs and playing guys who shouldn't be in the league like Rinaldo, Talbot, Griffith doesn't help.

Rinaldo and Griffith both played less than 10 minutes but were on ice for 3 goals against. The top lines at least held their own against MTL, but when your 4th line WITH THE LAST CHANGED gets abused like that you have no chance to win. I don't care how great a hitter Rinaldo is but he absolutely handed the Canadiens a goal. Talbot was the worst player on the ice, which says a lot.

I bet if Krejci, Marchand, and Pastrnak played its atleast 5-2.

Paul Byron, Daniel Carr, and Matt Flynn next big thing

They're pulling their 16th and 17th forwards from their system because of injuries. At that point you can't expect much. But you should be able to expect that a guy you gave up a 3rd round pick and who has your beloved grit and energy not get out shot 17-2 while he's on the ice for 10 minutes, not to give up 3 goals while on the ice in 10 minutes and not to cough up the puck at his own blue line because he has the absolute worst hands of any player in the NHL.

If the adults think that icing "gritty guys" like Talbot and Rinaldo are a good idea, then it's time for the youth to speak.

Daniel Carr- another 3rd/4th pro draft find for the Whippets:naughty:

he was at the Bruins development camp a few years ago

Carr
Brian Flynn of Lynnfield and Maine, undrafted was on Buffalo 4th line last year
Torrey Mitchell- former UVM player a 4th line grinder
Weise- Canucks reject but currently getting 15 minutes of fame
Desharnes- constant Habs whipping boy, soft and prone to long slumps
Fleishman- was a healthy scratch for Florida at times last year and dumped
Lars Eller- another Habs whipping boy, a Swede with a low hockey IQ its him
Paul Byron- picked up from Calgary, 6 goals last year in 57 games

so these are 8 of the 12 forwards who played today

half these guys weren't drafted, a couple aren't even 5'8'

But Boston didn't show up today, these 8 Canadiens showed up and skated the crap out of Boston

but to hear how small and fast and great they are:laugh:

hilarious- I'd be surprised if more than one is with Montreal in 3 years

lets hold off the Hall of Fame talk- I bet you Bergevin would give all 8 for Krejci or Marchand or Pastrnak by themselves

The reason they just went 2-9 was to many of these guys in top 6 roles

This was a terrible hockey game, we were beaten to the puck all day, it looked like they had an extra guy out there most of the time. Just an embarrassing display.

I'm not sure what else we could have done today. Koko and Griffith are leading Providence in scoring, and they are filling in for two of our scorers. I think part of the problem was on Julien for not putting them in the proper roles. Was Koko skating with Ferraro and Rinaldo? Wouldn't you call him up and put him in Krejci's spot at least? If you were going to slot someone up and put him with fourth liners, may as well call up a fourth liner.

I don't know. I think Montreal just has our number this year unless we are completely healthy, and even then I'm not sure.

If you read all that and came up with the brilliant conclusion that I think Max Talbot is a good idea then...

We get it, you don't like Rinaldo. You went way out of your way this summer... with all of your anti-Rinaldo propaganda and hyperbole about what a liability and nutcase he is. He has, generally, done a very good job in brining some energy back to a 4th line that was the worst "energy" line in the league last year. He has a bad game and all of a sudden you are back here with your anti-Rinaldo rhetoric.

Part of the problem is that Krejci and Marchand were out, that was compounded by calling up offensive guys to fill in for them, and then instead slotting guys like Ferraro and Connolly up, and putting those guys out of position, or not even playing them at all. Koko got only 6 minutes of ice time, and I think most of it on the 4th line.

A bigger part of the problem is that this year's team just isn't that great. And losing two of their best players makes that even more obvious.

Bingo. They prepared to play, Bruins were not.

The d-corps against the Habs is the biggest problem though. Therrien has so totally outclassed Julien in the Bruins breakouts, the Habs can forecheck them with their eyes closed.

A very well illustrated point.

It seems like while we have moved to more finesse, skilled players at forward, we've shrunken way too much along the way. When much of the forward group is filled with guys my size there is a problem. You need a proper balance, and we're definitely a bit too much on the small size currently. Especially for Julien's system which requires extensive strength and board battles.

Connolly doesn't seem to win a lot of battles but he's big so he's okay. Should Kemp go back into the starting lineup because hes 6'2''? Seems a bit narrow to just look at height and weight out of overall context. Hayes may be 6'6'' but no one really thinks of him as a physical force out there. And is one inch the difference maker between Talbot and Ferraro with 0 other factors?
Then you remove Griffith, Talbot, and Koko for Krejci, Pasta, and Marchand and you are left with 3 players who aren't really an issue. Case could be made for Vatrano to go back to the AHL, but he's also fine playing on the 3rd line at the moment, he should most certainly be in the line up of Connolly. Rinaldo is fine for his 4th line role. That leaves you with Spooner who has improved over the year, his face offs still needs work, but he's been better in his own zone and has been on the PK to some success.

Florida is going to be a one deadly team and for a long time.

Barkov 6'3, 220lbs something, 20y,
Ekblad 6'3, 215lbs something, 19y,
Jagr 6'2, 230lbs,
Crouse 6'4, 215lbs, 18y,
Bjugstad 6'6, 220lbs, 23y
Gubranson 6'5, 215, 23y,

They have managed to connect elite/top talent+ size.

Hubs is their "small" guy at 6'1, 190lbs, 22y.

You and Kirk were right that Camara wasn't going to become anything special but I believe to this day that if he was developed right then he could have been a great 4th line option --which is exactly what I wanted him for-- to essentially be what Rinaldo is today (just with a better overall toolbox). Camara was a way better OHLer than either Rinaldo or Randell (no disputing that, right) but he has never been able to translate to the Pro game and I'm sure that is largely due to all of the head injuries he took within the first year of turning pro.

I'd like anyone to argue with that. Faster and smaller? This is a team of third liners. We don't fight much anymore...that's somehow verboten...and these kids are not fast or tough, or good at hockey.

Imagine Hayes with Beleskey's heart? Instead he's the Hal Gill of forwards.

Koko still has not made me notice him on the ice once other than getting burned defensively

Sadly, I think it's all over for him here. I also think Griffith, morrow, Randell, and Subban are all done here.
