UGA saying get used to it folks...we will see this often probably in the 5/12 6/11 matchups and probably also in the 2nd round too if we get a 11/1 or something

They lost everyone worth a shit to opt-outs

You gotta wonder if NCAA is gonna try to ban opt outs or work with NFL for some sort of guaranteed money for 9-10-11-12 seeds in future years. I mean if you were a guaranteed 1st rounder on Ole Miss or Mizzou this year, even in the new playoff format are you seriously gonna go ahead and play knowing you're maybe 500:1 to win the national title?

42-2 over the past 3 years, not bad. Not even Saban or Dabo has accomplished a record as well as that over a 3 year period. Probably over Tom Osborne over the past 40 years has off the top of my head.

They’re not paid by the NCAA so they can’t. And coaches won’t force them to. We had a coach opt out so he could focus on recruiting.

Joe Tessetore has outlined it nicely.

It’s not just opt-outs, it’s all the insanity. Transfer portal, coaching changes, early signing days. The bowl preparations are not more important than any of these things.

Both teams have opt outs.
GA I believe had 6-8 starters out including Bowers. And many of FSU's "opt-outs" are guys pouting about the CFP snub. GA was ticked off too about the playoff but came to play instead of whining for 3 weeks.

If both teams were fully loaded GA probably would have only won 45-20 or something like that. FSU just wasn't that good. Looks like GA played mostly backups the whole second half too.

This is amusing but again it's going to show that these bowl games are now about the gimmicks.
Because they are gimmicks.

Pop Tarts and Duke’s Mayo wanted viral moments and they got them.

Why else is Pop Tarts sponsoring bowl games? I couldn’t have told you who was playing in the game without looking it up.

Turns out they were good teams.

They've been mostly meaningless for as long as I can remember

At least this makes them fun and memorable

It depends how you view the purpose of Bowl games.. (and also probably how old you are).
Bowl games used to be rewards for good regular seasons.. they weren't typically viewed/purposed as elimination playoffs.. which seems to be the only desired justification now.
If a team had a strong season (not 6-6), they got a cool trip to Miami or Pasadena, Atlanta.. somewhere warm & got to be on TV etc.. but only one or two games affected the final poll votes, and often weren't head-to-head Bowls.
Now people want every Bowl game to have championship implications & 'meaning', but that was (& shouldn't be) their sole purpose. They were mostly fun regular season after parties..
Use to be people were ok with split national champions, less focus on a Bowl's utility etc. Fans are compulsively obsessed with this playoff format now(?)

Georigia lost a game. They have nothing to complain about. Florida St was undefeated and won the Conference.

FSU not exactly delivering the best statement that they should have been in the CFP.
They delivered the right statement. Eff the CFP and those 13 nobodies on the committee.

Is it the fans that are obsessed? Or is it the media?

guys, Georgia had 4-6 opt outs. FSU had 16 starters opt out plus a bunch of depth. This was Georgia best players outside of a few positions vs FSU third string. This game should not change your view on whether FSU should’ve made it.
Way too late for that. Takes 5 minutes of surfing social media to see that. For every post defending poor wronged FSU who had a dozen guys sitting out for no other reason then to sulk - there's ten that are saying yep told you so.

Even healthy, FSU struggled in several games this year vs. mediocre opponents - they were lucky to finish 11-0 and would have gotten crushed by any of the playoff teams, or GA.

They’re sitting out because the game is meaningless. You don’t know that they wouldn’t be crushed without the opportunity to play.

If the game is meaningless then FSU as a whole should have opted out completely and not wasted everybody's time and money. All they did for 3 weeks was b*tch and whine and talk about protests and lawsuits. And it showed.

They basically did all opt-out. They were running out freshmen and third stringers.
