Hunter is progressing really well as the season goes on. Has developed more of a shooting mindset but doesn’t have the most over powering shot.Stick positioning is the biggest thing I’ve notice as he cuts off the lanes and breaks up a lot of passes. Not the quickest guy but very good edges that allows him to move the puck fast and avoids big hits. His vision is really good and can’t find guys sneaking behind defenders. Wouldn’t say he’s physical but that’s what his partner is for. He’s the go to guy when the team has leads and plays mostly all of the penalty kills (Kitchener has the 4th most Pims and rank 7th in Pk) . Has been getting scrums a lot more than last year.
Pros- edges, vision, and hockey IQ
Areas of improvement would be his all around game as we all know what he can do offensively it’s just fine tuning the defensive aspects.
Currently at a plus 31 which is 5th overall
I’m not fully convinced he’s makes the jump to the AHL next year but could get look and sent back in November. Albeit I don’t know much about your guys prospects list or projected blue line in abottsford. Likely traded to a contender if he does return
Thanks for the update. Regarding next year, my feeling is there is slim to no chance he goes back to junior for his overage year after the year he’s currently having. Would be more beneficial to develop his game playing against men at the professional level.

Those Wilander highlights look they were shot from a phone camera in low level light from a distance of half a mile.

But even at that, you can see in the open ice of OT, the kid is an elite-level skater. So relieved he wasn't sacrificed in any trade deadline deals.

I dare say this thread just got significantly less exciting without our 1.50ppg Dman. Let's hope Lindholm for Kuzmenko at the NHL level makes the NHL team even more exciting to make up for it.
I know that it’s gauche to slam a prospect you just traded but it’s important to consider the last 2 instances where a dman eclipsed 100 points in the OHL. That would be Ryan Ellis and Jamie Rivers. Both of them had (are having) respectable NHL careers but they might be an indicator of the type of play Brzustewicsz blossoms into.

With Rivers, the parallels are striking. Both picked in the mid-3rd round, very similar builds with the same warts with skating.

I've always viewed him as "too good to be true" given that his offense has come with another very skilled offensive player. Still, it was nice to have a prospect who was always putting up points and showing up in highlights.

Ryan Ellis put up almost 30 more points than the next guy on his team.

Hunter B. is only 3 and 4 points up on the next two guys, who are 1.60PPG and 1.38PPG forwards up front. Just looked at all the game logs (sicko for sure) and 39 of his 61 assists are secondary (65%).

Yep. Would not be surprised looking back on this trade that we dealt Brzustewicz (it's a relief I won't need to keep typing his name haha) at the peak of his trade value.

Ellis had a cannon and was a ++ skater. He could create and finish his own plays at a high rate.

It's hard to know how much Hunter is really contributing to the offence without watching footage of the play leading up to all the goals he's had a hand in (and really, just watching all his tape). A good puck moving defender can have a huge impact on the play just by putting the puck in a spot to create separation for his forwards (is he a big driver of clean exits that are leading to HD chances off the rush?). Like a good QB puts the ball in a spot where his receiver can pick up a ton of YAC because he's attacking seams at high speed. Haven't seen him play, so can't speak to how high calorie his points are, or aren't.

However, D men often drive the. play, but end up not getting the assist at all. I suspect it evens out somewhat. Either way sorry to lose him, but we were always going to lose someone, and am glad it wasn't any of Lekki Pods Willy or EP2.

One thing I noticed that is more prevalent is that he makes a good pass out of the zone and the forwards go up and score versus carrying the puck and making things happen in all three zones on the same shift

Everything you hear about him is that he thinks the game at a high level and if he had Willander's mobility we'd almost certainly not have moved him, decent chance he ends up a player, but he certainly ain't gonna help us this year or next, so i absolutely get the decision to move him....and what he helped get back is potentially VERY needle moving.

Interesting post trade interview with Brz. If you read between the lines, it’s possible that the reason he wasn’t signed was because he didn’t want to sign with us. Perhaps he saw what happened with Rathbone and Hughes commanding all the PP time and balked.
