He would have been something if he could have stayed healthy. He might've had more of a shot. I guess that's the way things go though. He played pretty well in Halifax last year and cost us a 1st rounder in compensation for playing as many games as he did.

He had back surgery this year...which explains his lack of game action.

Even beforehand, he looked totally out of place in the AUS unfortunately. It's a league for big guys, and while someone who scored at the Q level like Dominic Noel could adjust because he's tall, Bell won't because the physical aspect of the game is so important. As anyone will attest, Bell is really really finished. Patrick Grandmaitre is the only little guy who can put up points in the entire league.

I think you are right.

But Bell was never soft until he screwed up his back.

At 17 he looked like a future NHLer, that is why Vancouver used a 3rd rounder on him.

Problem is, once you have a serious back injury you're never the same player.

Don't forget Benedict. He can't be much taller than Patrick and he put up good numbers on a poor Acadia team. The league is very tight checking though, you gotta be gritty in most cases to be successful.

Benedict for sure, I guess I should have used the word 'grinding' haha

Which makes Scott Barney's comeback all the more special. It's still amazing at what he's been able to do.

Who cares if you put up numbers in the AUS?

Very few players go anywhere from Canadian university Hockey.

Thatcher is getting an education paid for and still playing some hockey.. good for him.

It is unfortunate what happened with his back but there is more to life than hockey.
