I have never played any sport at a high level but it seems to me that who the captain is has very little affect on winning.

Sometimes you need to send message. I see your point if it's something the players haven't been told before hand but I doubt this was the case. He didn't say anything that wasn't obvious. The Leafs big contracts could use a little discomfort in their lives. It's good for them. If they don't want to get called out, play better.

Point also being it wasn't ok for him to say that to the stars but it was fine for the little people in the bottom 6.

I agree that treating a few players differently can create divisions but I think once you go public the coach will probably alienate whoever he calls out publicly. It’s not an easy situation.
