Marner may turn out to be the best of all 3. He is insanely good, ridiculous.

As far as this poll goes:

Franchise C + Franchise W or 1 Franchise C. Hockey is a TEAM sport so I go with the Duo of Marner and Matthews. If it was an individual sport like tennis, then McDavid.

What sense is it to have 1 good player in McDavid when the team is garbage and going to miss the playoffs every year anyway. Hockey is a team sport...if you want to win a Championship you need depth, the full package.
Oh Leafs fans, never change.

The difference between Matthews and McDavid is not Marner...give me the Leafs duo.
Pretty much, and this is more about Marner than it is about the gap between the two players. He's awesome.

I never understood the desire to create polls with the intention of winning them. It should be to gain a consensus. Life is weird, HF is weird.

Tell which of the the following players are better or project better of a player than Marner is tracking towards? These are forwards picked in top 10 from 2010 - 2016 NHL Entry Drafts:

Taylor Hall (1st overall), Tyler Seguin (2nd overall), Ryan Johansen, Nino Niederreiter , Brett Connolly, Jeff Skinner, Alexander Burmistrov, Mikael Granlund

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1st overall), Gabriel Landeskog (2nd overall), Jonathan Huberdeau, Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad, Mark Scheifele, Sean Couturier

Nail Yakupov (1st overall), Alex Galchenyuk

Nathan MacKinnon (1st overall), Aleksander Barkov (2nd overall), Jonathan Drouin, Elias Lindholm, Sean Monahan, Bo Horvat, Valeri Nichushkin

Sam Reinhart (2nd overall), Leon Draisaitl, Sam Bennett, Michael Dal Colle, Jake Virtanen, William Nylander, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nick Ritchihe

Connor McDavid (1st overall), Jack Eichel (2nd overall), Dylan Strome, Pavel Zacha, Timo Meier, Mikko Rantanen

Auston Matthews (1st overall), Patrik Laine (2nd overall), Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jesse Puljujarvi, Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Alexander Nylander, Tyson Jost

There are 46 players listed above, how many players would you take over Marner? Now, how many of these are 1st overall picks?

Only non top 2 picks I would take over Marner currently are: Schiefele and Draisaitl.....I think he will close the cap fast on both of these players however they will always have the increased value of playing C.
You might say for 4th overall picks...he's generational.

You can say this a few more times, it still won't make it true.

You and your Leafs fans are in the minority here.

If people want to know why people think the way they do about Leafs fans, read this thread. Yikes.

We don’t really care what other fans think about this nor are we insecure about Mcdavid winning this poll. I’m perfectly fine with having Matthews and Marner for the next 10 years

......he said, while his Leaf team made the playoffs yet again, and McDavid's Oilers toiled near the very bottom of the league.

Matthews (2016)
McDavid (2015) and arguably Eichel (2015)
MacKinnon, Barkov ((2013)
Tavares, Hedman 2009
Stamkos, Doughty(2008)
Kane (2007)
Toews (2006), though he wasn't a 1st overall so he shouldn't probably count
Crosby (2005)
Ovetshkin, Malkin (2004)

And probably
Dahlin (2017)
Hughes (2018)

Matthews could end up surpassing a lot of these players, but there indeed is a Matthews-caliber player available in lot of drafts - sometimes two of them.

Disregard the Dmen listed as you can not fairly/accurately compare Forwards/D/Goalies. Since we only know what Matthews is after his first 2 seasons in the league you need to compare that to what these players have done their first 2 seasons.

The players who had stronger first 2 seasons in the league are HOFers.

Ovi, Malkin, Crosby, Stamkos (likely), McDavid (on his way)

AM had better first 2 season than: Toews, Kane, Tavares, MacKinnon, Barkov, Eichel

You do realize that you skipped drafts 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 to try and make it look as if Matthews caliber of player happens each draft. In the time line you gave that is 12 entry drafts, only 5 players were better in their first 2 seasons. 3 of these players are recognized as generational players and some argue that Malkin should be considered with the same tag.

Uh ya except Seth Jones/Alex Pietrangelo>>>Mitch Marner.
When you narrow the field to forwards drafted by Canadian teams at the #4 overall spot he's starting to look more generational. I mean, when you compare him to Jason Bonsignore it starts to become more clear

He is certainly a good pick for a player outside of the top 3. But players like him are drafted every year

Go back the last 10 drafts and choose at least 2 forwards better than Marner who were selected outside of the top 2 picks.

Ya for sure.

OP clearly set this poll up thinking McDavid could win.

Next week if we are lucky a Leafs fans can create another poll with Matthews + Marner + Nylander vs. McDavid.
the poll results are wrong, it just shows how the consensus isn't always right.
This isn't basket ball people!!

It seems that Oilers fan are getting upset everytime Mcdavid gets compared to another player. He’s a generational player we get that but some fans make it seem like he’s the best thing since slice bread
