Does anyone have a list of all Stanley Cup winning captains?

I found a list couple of days ago but i have forgotten where it was. I think i read that only two europeans have won the cup, is that correct? Johnny Gotsellig and some other european guy won it in the 30's. thx

As far as I know, no European captains have ever won the Cup. Gottselig, Chicago captain in 1938, was born in Russia, but he isn't considered to be European. I assume he must have moved to North America at a young age, similar to Stan Mikita. The other guy you are probably thinking of is Charlie Gardiner, also a Chicago player. He was the Blackhawks captain in 1934, born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Like Gottselig, I believe he is also considered to be Canadian.

When Ottawa made their run last year, Alfredsson became the first European captain to reach the finals. Derian Hatcher, an American, is the only non-Canadian captain to win the Stanley Cup.

Can't remember. In `79 since Cournoyer was out for most of the season and all the playoffs, did Serge Savard ever wear the "C" in those playoffs or did they just not fill the spot until the next year?

The Bruins did not have a captain in those years, but Bucyk, as the senior alternate captain, accepted the Cup and did the traditional skate around the rink.

That's correct. Savard wore the "c" when Cournoyer was out and it was Savard who accepted the Cup in their SC win.

When Cournoyer was forced to retire fifteen games into the 1978-79 season due to back problems, he was replaced by Serge Savard. That spring, although Yvan had played just a handful of games and was unable to contribute with any significance, the Montreal Canadiens insisted his name be included with those engraved on the Stanley Cup. It was the tenth and final time Cournoyer would be part of a Stanley Cup championship. With Jean Beliveau also winning ten championships, only Henri Richard, with eleven, has won more.

This of course all changed about 4 months after this post when Lidstrom became the first European Captian to win a Cup.
A feat repeated by Chara in 2011

Did you really need to revive a thread from 08 when you could just Google who was on the roster?

It's a legitimate question which made me curious as well, the only goalie I could find from that era of Bruins was Joe Junkin and he only played in one game in the 68-69 season. All of Boston's games from 69-70 to 71-72 were played by Johnston and Cheevers. So did one of them get injured briefly and had a benchwarmer who saw no minutes?
