Eh, small sample size, but that Pitt game, he was superior at passing to no one, that’s for sure.
I saw him make multiple passes in that game that show he was a "plus" passer.

If anything, it was the receiving player that wasn't ready/capable of handling the pass because the passing on the big club is so piss poor.

Iskhakov has good edge work and is seemingly always moving his feet (which can draw penalties). There is a place in the NHL for tiny players other than being a Martin St. Louis, especially today.

I think this is unfortunately Lamoriello’s M.O. in regards to managing depth. If he brings up Iskhakov earlier, someone needs to get waived. Although he had no problem waiving Gauthier, but he must think a second year on a deal makes them safe to pass thru waivers.
Good point, and some coaches will bring up a player, to light a fire under the teams assesss. Could be that Martin is banged up, or maybe Roy wants more offense?

IDK, but we will find out how it goes.

lol I was at that game, either you’re a liar, or just remember what you want to. Isk attempted multiple passes that went to the wide open areas of the ice, instead of a teammate. Yes, he did also make passes to teammates. He’s not some savior, and would be lucky to find a bottom 6 spot on any team. I pray I’m wrong and he turns in to the next St. Louis for the isles. But damn it seems like all you guys see is a 2 minute YouTube highlights vid and think he’s a sure fire NhL player. There’s a reason there aren’t dozens of St Louis players skating around the ice in the league. It’s because at that size you have to have the supreme talent to overcome, like St. Louis did, and unfortunately Isk doesn’t have that. JMO and hope I’m wrong but I seriously doubt it,.

Absolutely. And if we’re lucky, he can pinball into opposing team player and take him down like a bowling pin.

We are a mediocre at best team. Why on earth shouldn't we blow it up? This core isn't winning. We have no prospects to help us in any significant way.

You keep Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Sorokin...everyone else should be available.

Blowing it up and rebuilding with the hope to be competitive in 3-4 years is a significantly better plan than running back the oldest and slowest team in the NHL to maybe sneak into the playoffs and get embarrassed in the 1st round.
why keep Sorokin? He's about to make 8.5 and is average. Move him while other teams still think he's elite, and potentially bring back a significant return to help the quick retool

Who makes that deal? Do you think other teams haven’t seen him play this year?

Fair question, but hard to believe he's gone from elite to untradeable. I think there's teams who still view him as well above average and are desperate enough for goaltending they might make that deal. Apparently there's a market for Markstrom and he's older and worse (albeit a bit cheaper).

A very mediocre team that shouldn’t be in the playoffs is being significantly outplayed by a legitimate contender. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that was realistic throughout the season and not disillusioned by erroneous “optimism.”

While they had a strong end to the season, those teams that were in front of them that they had to leapfrog just to get in - collectively shit down their legs.

But whatever, not going to apologize for making the playoffs. They didn't roll over and die like they could have. I can be proud of this team for the strong finish.

Last year I had expectations that the Isles could hang with the Canes and had a chance at winning. This year, I cannot believe how apathetic I have been over the last 3 games. Flat out sucks.

This.

We're a .500 team. Canes are a Cup Contender. Not sure what people were expecting.

Would be nice to win at least one game though.

Could have and should have but they also were better team in game 1 and for good portion of game 3. It’s funny worst game of series we had a 3-0 lead. Canes execute on the scoring chances and have had better goaltending. They are also relentless, I think only team in east better might be panthers.

i really just feel like this team needed to do something. Lamoriello doing nothing at the trade deadline, and seeing this team get destroyed like Lemmings is him basically waiving the white flag. They are in no means a cup contender. you ride and die by the goalies, and what we did to Sorokin last night is the same story as this entire season. We let Ilya down yet again but played great with Varly.

It's very cliche -- and I'm channeling some Jiggs and Eddie here -- but good teams can win many games easily sometimes and .500 teams find different ways of losing all the time....

We are what we are.....

you could add Mcdavid to this team and we still aren’t beating Carolina. Lou should have sold Mayfield and all other ufas last season (and shouldn’t have traded for Horvat IMO) and he should have sold this season. This team needs a major overhaul. You need to remove a good chunk of this roster. Start with Pelech and Pageau.

The team played decent in front of Sorokin, unfortunately Sorokin isn’t on his game right now. He needs a full offseason. Varly/Sorokin it doesn’t matter the isles aren’t beating the Canes. The talent disparity is obvious.

Mayfield is fine when he isn't playing on a broken ankle. I will say that his presence is badly missed compared to Bortuzzo. I would personally trade Pageau and Pelech to Utah. They got to find a way to fix that defense and their bottom 6. That or they try to actually sign free agents.

So, you are satisfied with the Top 6 performances? Interesting.

The bottom 6 is easy to fix once you let go of the legacy attachment. The top 6, well, that’s making aggressive moves to do so.

Significantly outplayed? We have outplayed, outshot and outchanced them in 2 of 3 games and in the third we had a 3-0 lead. Now, on the other hand, in net, yes we have been badly outplayed there and that is concerning.

This series to me is evidence of how wrong people are who say we arent gonna win the cup anyway so why do anything at the trade deadline. We are playing according to almost all sportsbooks the odds on favorite to win the cup. We have lost essentially 3 1-goal games, at least two of them in which we just could not finish to get that needed big goal.
Now lets think in an alternate universe you take Guentzel and Kuznetsov (their two deadline trades) off Carolina. The Hurricanes decided to make no moves and instead in this alternate universe the Isles added Guentzel and Kuznetsov. Can anybody honestly tell me right now based on these three games that there is a very likely chance that we would be up 2-1 or even 3-0 in this series now?
That could be the difference in your opponent upgrading a player or two at the deadline and you doing nothing.

Mayfield is fine, but for 7 years no thanks. Should have moved him for draft capital. This team needs to get younger and faster.

Im not. I also feel like they need an injection. This team needs a Marchessault so badly. This team needs a DeBrusk so badly. They are in dire need of physical top line players.
