Is he struggling?

Unfortunately he’s hitting like Toman did last year. Toman was an overage HSer though so he had an extra year of development before heading into pro ball, but the risk with Nimmala was always the hit tool and his pitch recognition which seems overmatched so far.

He looked patient in his short stint in the complex league after the draft but maybe they rushed him too quickly to full season ball. Bonilla for instance is just 3 months younger and they started him off in short season.

I wasn't a fan of the Nimmala pick but I'd wait until they're both at least 21 or 22 (college Junior age) before I start to worry. Barger didn't have his official breakout until he was 22. It's a tough adjustment for high school kids living on their own for the first time. It'd be awesome if they were hitting well, but that just means they're not fast movers like the top tier of prospects.

That’s fair but in Nimmala’s case he also grew up in the Tampa area so he has that family support around him. He’s raw and was one of, if not the youngest draft eligible player last year. Putting players in situations to fail, especially at that age could be detrimental to their development.

Barger as an example was playing in rookie ball through his age 19 season. And I’d argue that age-21 season post COVID year was a breakout performance from him. Especially when the story was that he bulked up massively in 2020 en route to that 18 home run campaign.

Atkins is getting roasted on the fan. This clown has to go. He’s f***ed up so much. Major mismanagement

Teo trade. Who leads the dodgers in Hr and batting cleanup
Varsho trade. f***ing disgrace
Doing nothing to improve the offense this offseason
Thinking Bo Vlad and Springer are good enough

Blow this pos up

Nobody is more deserving, but the dude needs to be healthy too. Still I’d comfortably give him 20m AAV over 4-5 years.

Woah. I'm as big a fan of DJ as anybody but that would make him the 3rd highest paid catcher in baseball. He's not quite at THAT level for me.

I think on a per rate basis he’s right there in the top 5, and that’d only make him one of the highest paid catchers because it’s a young and inexpensive gen of catchers right now with multiple locked up through their arb years. It’s not much different from Martin’s salary.

Contreras got 5/87, so something like that, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if he got up to Perez’s salary on the open market.

Edit: if he did play as many games as Contreras since 2021 while maintaining his average form, he’d be a full win higher than him.

Again, health does play a part, but if he’s healthy the rest of the year I think he gets a pretty good pay day. And you’re right I might be completely out to lunch in terms of evaluations because there aren’t a lot of comps out there. I’d love it if he settles in at like a 3/50 or 4/60 deal + club or mutual options.

Teo signing with the Dodgers is irrelevant. Did Seattle win that trade?

And Varsho has been better than Moreno AND Gurriel combined this year. What’s so disgraceful about him and his impact?

I think his biggest failure is not having a strong farm system. His regime hasn't drafted or developed well. Can't remember a single Hutter drafted and developed by this regime, except maybe Bo (debatable that he's considered under his regime).

Anyone know when the renovations are totally completed? I think the only reason Shapiro and his buddy Ross are still here is because of the renos.

I’m guessing they are still here because this has been a playoff team the past two seasons. While this year isn’t going well, they are not the Miami Marlins…yet

Seattle is as relevant as LA i.e. not relevant at all. What matters is the Jays and so far it has not been a great trade at all.

Also Varsho is better this season and i would like him as a center fielder but it's still not a great trade because after trading Hernadez Atkins had to find a batter able to replace him and as a batter Varsho is a downgrade over Hernandez. Moreno had to be used in an attempt to replace Hernandez not to improve the defense.
