-If signed out of Europe or the NCAA at age 22 or older, fewer than 65 (skaters) or 45 (goalies) NHL games within three years of signing.

Each poll runs 24 hours and is public. Vote for your choice and nominate a prospect from the list below to replace that player on the subsequent poll.

Ullmark again for the same reason.

There's a very good chance that Ullmark could be the starting goalie of this team going forward. Maybe as soon as next season.

That puts him ahead of anyone left on the list for me. I'd have put Ullmark at #3 after Mittlestadt and Guhle.

He may be their starter, but is that indicative of him being good or simply of him being the guy available?

That said, there is pretty much f*** all in the 2014 draft. If we look at it in a vacuum of simply draft picks, sure, it looks like the team blew it big time. If we look at the entire draft, especially from the point at which those guys were taken, there are a total of 10 guys total who are "NHL regulars" out of everyone taken from the start of the 2nd round on. That draft was the benchmark for bad.

As for those two, the issue I still have is that they are taking up contract spots. Neither should have been signed.

He may be having a bad stretch of games lately (as have the entire Amerks team), but overall he's still having his best statistical season in Rochester, has shown improvement every year, earned an All-Star berth for his play. Plus I've liked what I've seen from him when he's gotten call-ups in Buffalo. I think he's on track to be a future starting goalie in the NHL, and he's 24, so his time could be coming soon.

I don't know why people would ding Ullmark's ranking over a bad recent stretch of games, and yet still rank Nylander highly despite having multiple poor seasons since coming to North America.

Let me put it this way:

If Asplund hits his ceiling, he's what, a 2nd line winger on this team? If Ullmark hits his ceiling, he's the starting goalie. Which is more important?

I think the more appropriate question is "which is more likely?" when making a prospect ranking.

That’s more of an indictment of the suddenly terrible team in front of him. He’s often the only reason games are close. I was no Ullmark fan this time last year, but his game has moved up to another level. And he has the attitude and demeanor of a goalie who can start in the NHL. It is true his play has dropped off a bit, but he’s still easily the team MVP.

I can’t believe Nylander was so clearly 3. This is a player who is openly called out by his coach for a lack of desire in his play and has regressed since turning pro. My guess is most people who voted for him, probably haven’t watched much of the Amerks.

Ullmark has had 2 prior uninspiring at best AHL seasons and an awful SHL season the 3 years prior to this year. Maybe his start to this season was the aberration and we're back to the real Ullmark. It's not just a "bad recent stretch of games".

Nylander was #3 and only by a hair over a guy almost no one on here has seen play live in the last year. That's the start of a plunge.

Typo. On my phone and meant 3. Still, I don’t see how he beats out Ullmark. Or Asplund for that matter.

He's in freefall. It wouldn't surprise me to see the opinion on him have him nearly out of the top 10 after summer roster moves and the upcoming draft if he doesn't actually start to do things on the ice.

I love Asplund. I'm not someone who is all keen on getting jerseys, but I'm tempted to ask for a Farjestad #74 this year as a birthday/Christmas gift. At my age, it's just not done. :biglaugh: He does all sorts of little things well, but he does them all with pace. He deserves to be pushing on the flashy but ineffective Nylander, if not outright passing him. I still have Alex a smidge ahead based on possible ceiling, not on likelihood of reaching it at this time. But it's not that big of a gap and with Asplund's development curve, he may be ahead of Nylander soon. I'm eager to see how the playoffs unfold for Rasmus even more than I am afraid what the playoffs will reveal in Nylander.
