The Devils have been known for giving up fewer shots and taking fewer penalties than almost every team year in and year out for all of Brodeur's career. It's not as well known that they have also been at or near the bottom in number of faceoffs per game since the stat has been kept.

The question is one of how much credit is due Brodeur for any of these factors to the "Devils System".

A look the Devils stats, taking the games where Brodeur played the whole game and comparing them to the games where he either didn't play or only played part of the game, and comparing the SOGF, SOGA, face-offs and PIM per game.

Faceoff per game is not surprising. Brodeur always likes to keep the puck in play whenever he can and is amazingly composed even when throws it out to a teammate despite the other team being nearby.

What do the faceoff stats imply outside of Brodeur? The Rangers have been awful from 97-04 and mostly just above average since then except for 11-12. Is that a stat that implies something positive?

i think it makes sense that it helps you to have a goalie who can handle, and move the puck. having a defensive zone faceoff should only happen when necessary, even if your team wins the draw it can still end up in the corner or turned over, interesting stats.
