Studnicka is a matchstick. He's an AHL/NHL tweener. Underachieved for a 2nd round pick.

Decent low risk gamble. I wanted to take a chance on Studnicka when Vancouver waived him at the end of preseason but this allows us to stay contract slot neutral. By all accounts Studnicka seems to have gotten a lot faster this past offseason which was always his biggest flaw.

Studnicka is a plus skater who would have a shift or a game here or there where you’d think he was ‘getting it’ in terms of bringing the motor/compete level needed to be a useful bottom-6 NHLer … and then he’d vanish into the woodwork for another long stretch of games.

Seems like a good guy who worked hard to come into camp this year in great shape but is just too passive a player for the most part. And Boston fans told us much the same thing when we picked him up a year ago.
