That wasn't uncommon back in the days when sports teams were often not owned by people with the means of today's owners.

I remember wondering who the heck Robert O. Swados, Robert E. Rich, Jr. and George W. Strawbridge, Jr. were, as they were The Buffalo Sabres Board Of Directors. I ended up realizing they were the teams minority owners to The Knox brothers, Seymour and Norty.

Today's owner's don't often need other investor's...

keep in mind some people claim be minority owners but are not

NHL (now) does a pretty rigorous review and investigation into all parties in franchise purchase, which would include financial, background and criminal investigation. As well as review every partnership agreement wrt team ownership.

they definately have some 'stakeholders' who might not own a percentage of the team but are like public figures for the team. Bryce Harper, Daniel Negranu, Celine Dion etc.

I saw Andre Agassi and his wife Steffi Graf at the recent game.
