Pavs has been really impressive lately.
Seems like the team is rolling.

I've said it before but I can't get over the feeling that we're showing way more determination and heart than previous years. So often if we were down one in the third it was lights out. Now it seems we find ways to even the game up.

Overall, it was a very good game. Buff was fantastic. 2 PP goals!?! Wow.
Pavelec was excellent. The first goal was soft, but he was lights out towards the end of the game.
And what a 180 from the past in shootouts!

Also quick shout out to the flyer fan in section 117 row 6ish.
Every time the flyers are in town he comes decked out and is ****ing hilarious.

These exchanges crack me up:

Jets heckler: Mason, you suck buddy!
Flyer fan: Nah, Mason, you're doing just fine

Jets heckler: Mason you're a bum!
Flyer fan: It's okay Mason, I'm sure you're a great guy!

And these go on all night. Eventually they just had a popcorn fight during the shoot out. It was all good natured and hilarious.

I wish I had been at the game - the crowd sounded energized.

And really, the Jets crapped the bed for about 20 minutes and allowed the two goals, but Mason gave the Flyers a chance to steal the game. It's very heartening to see the Jets dig in their heels, collectively, in the third when they're behind on the score sheet, though. That's not something we've seen a lot of in the previous two seasons - Pavelec and the skaters gave up by the third in just about any game last year if they were behind going into the third period.

And I am very encouraged by the third D pairing - other than Pardy's penalties, and just a few bad chip outs by both of them, they played a solid game. They are HUGE improvement over Stuart and Postma. From reading Kings fans comments it seemed as though Ellerby was soft on the puck and prone to bonehead over-commitments, but last night he was quietly effective moving the puck up, and took a few Flyers out along the boards. Pardy is a somewhat deft puck-handler, which I don't remember him being as a Leaf. The bottom line is that I don't start sweating the moment the puck crosses into the D-zone when Pardy /Ellerby are on the ice, unlike when Stuart/Postma start handling the puck like it's a grenade.

Overall, the Jets have earned their winning streak, and have done it by incrementally improving some facets of the game that we were all criticising the team for. Baby steps, and theyre all taking one or two small baby steps, which has been reflected in the results of the last half-dozen games.

I'm really looking forward to Sunday's game. And really angry with myself for forgetting to drop my entire vBucks hoard on the Jets last night. Crap. Stupid Monty.

Good post Darth - agree with all your comments. I know Chevy gets his fair share of flak for tolling the waiver wire, but Ellerby has been a decent pickup - given our injury issues on D, I'm glad he grabbed him. He's been very serviceable, and as you say, for the most part imparts some confidence when he's out there. Happily surprised by Pardy as well.

KW: we're like Florida from 2 years ago - OT/SO specialists. If they do manage to crawl their way back into playoff contention then it'll be an issue, but I'm like you - happy to get the 2.

The two upcoming games with the Wild are huge - they've been playing very well. If they can take those, it'll have a very positive repercussion on the standings in the Central.

how's Scheifele vs Couturier last night?

They both looked pretty good out there - I'd be happy to have Couts on the Jets, personally. Scheifele was much heavier on the NZ starts, Couturier was way heavier on the DZ starts, and Scheifele was a bit higher on OZ starts (20% vs 16%).

Jet's pretty much dominated the play for most of the game - CF% was way higher than Philly's, except during the mid/end of the 1st, and during OT, which was pretty evident on ice too.

I found this "event" interesting:

1 6:44 PHI Shot Snap 53 ft. Couturier EV 5v5
1 7:07 WPG Shot Snap 54 ft. Scheifele EV 5v5

Whatever you can do, I can do. :D

Scheifele's CF% was 60%, and CF% Rel was -3.0%, and Couturier was 29% and -13%. Same number of shots on net, but Scheifele had 2 blocked and 1 missed. Scheifele won the face-off stats battle - 6W 6L, 50%, Couts 5W 10L, 33%. It's quite remarkable how "close" they are, and the usage and stats very strongly mirrors garret's article from yesterday (which is definitely worth a read  ).

Here's the Fenwick results for the game from extraskater.com:

Great to snag another 2 points last night. Two or three more wins and we're right back in the mix! Keep it up Jerts! :handclap:

If you read the narrative that Lawless put forth, the Jets barely hung in there and it was only by Pavs' will that the Jets won.

Classic Lawless. The guy should stick to researching and squeezing sources. That's what he's good at. He has next to zero ability to analyze the game and offer quality independent thought. The Fenwick chart is exactly how I saw the game which tells a different story than the Lawless narrative.

But that doesn't tell the nice neat black and white story wrapped up in a bow that Lawless likes to write. Today's mission was to pump Pavvy's tires and that's what he did.

I find his style tiresome. Bring back the plagarizer!:naughty:

Sounds eerily similar to that 2 game set versus the Capitals that the JETS failed to show up for last season.:help:

That was well done YWG... maybe I should just retire and leave it up to you

I didn't see the game but it seems we were outplayed in OT. Last season I thought the Jets were pretty good 4 on 4. This season not so much it seems. I wonder why?
