Had a feeling this was the deal when they didn’t tender him. Saves over 800k this season iirc.

1st thought: Blackwood isn't worth even half this money. He's horrible!
2nd thought: He's totally worth it if his horrible goaltending can help us get Celebrini and Misa in 2024 and 2025.

Still can't figure out if Grier is dumb or playing 4D chess
He’s not dumb. He’s blatantly tanking unlike the last 3 years with Wilson where we were just plain horrible.

Works for me.

It's not a big number or long term and we're going to be poor for the foreseeable. No point in spending big assets on netminding yet...

Probably could have gotten him off the UFA market for that price without giving up a draft pick. The fact that he signed here on one of the worst teams for goalies shows that he didn't have much faith in the UFA market.

Or he wanted a chance to play and to rebuild his stock and hit the UFA market in early part of his physical prime

he signed here because no one else woulda signed him. 3 years of over 3.00 GAA, 2 of sub .900 save % and lots of injuries. This guy is lucky ot have any job...

But, of course, our GM who gives anyone with a pulse 2M, gives him that amount. He was a 3rd string goalie, sharks should have gotten him for 2 yrs 900k per. Who exaclty was gunna give nearly 5M to him?

Grier makes so little sense to me. Lindbom at 2.5? Kunin at 2.75? Now blackwood at 2.35? Kunin was a 4th liner, and -11 at that in nashville. Lindbom was also a 4th liner and -11 in philly. Blackwood is a 3rd string goalie with a 3.19 GAA, .897 save percentage the last three seasons. None of these guys needed to be paid at those numbers. 1-1.5M per or so shoulda done it.

Most NHL players don't want to play for a dogshit team in a boring town with the highest taxes and cost of living in the league. You have to overpay to get free agents to come here and it's much more preferable for a team in the Sharks situation to overpay in AAV rather than term.

We all thought DW gave out NTC/NMCs like candy. GMMG doing the same with 6th round picks.
