Marxist Communism actually supported the idea of free market economics, just with the caveat that the labourers ought to own all capital, such that everyone is equally capable of creating, innovating, and producing goods for the market.

It shouldn't really be all that relevant. If my political opinion on an international scale is left and libertarian, I should be very left by American standards and consequently quite distanced from Obama's policies.

I think the thing is that there is a lack of anyone significant in American politics who is a better comparison.

It also could be made by someone with a right wing bias (and is in the whole Obama is a commie crowd, or at least sees him as far left)
