Getting anything for Megna is a solid move by Grier. Seattle shouldn’t use him on the regular though especially come playoff time.

they have 6 D over 40 games, I think he's a 7th option as insurance for their playoff run
Probably and for them that’s a solid use of a 4th round pick. For the Sharks, there’s a lot more good that comes with selling your veterans where you can.

Relatively decent depth guy. Would have liked a 3rd considering it's a divisional trade but beggers can't be choosers

Contract slots are a non-issue in the vast majority of cases. The Sharks have plenty of warm bodies they could include to make a trade contract-neutral.

Honestly, that seems like a lot to give up for a player of this calibre.

I'm torn. This is one of the depth D the Canes were targeting.

On the one hand, we lost out on a guy. On the other, the fact he went for a 4th indicates that the market isn't too crazy for defensive depth D. Some of those guys go for a 2nd which is crazy so I'm hopeful we get a similar price.

I know that. I don’t hate the trade because it will make the Sharks a little worse, and it’s definitely funny that Karlsson keeps turning AHLers into viable NHL partners that the Sharks can trade for real assets. I dunno, it just feels arbitrary.

Maybe the Sharks are opening up a contract slot for something else? IIRC they were at 50 contracts.
This is the most likely scenario
