On the one hand, we got several monkeys off the back with Skjei's game winner in G4. Clutch shot, powerplay, end of game. It was exactly the same shenanigans we see go against us in every game vs the Rangers and Panthers in recent years. We slayed that dragon so to speak, and the team should have a little confidence going into G5.

On the other hand, if we are to reverse sweep, this game is the hardest. It's an away game so Lavi can dictate matchups. The Rangers are more likely at home to get favorable calls. In G4, there were only 3 powerplays over the whole game, which works in our favor, but G5 likely has more.

Keys to this one:
  • Stay out of the box
  • Skjei will have to be absolutely elite to contain our good buddy DeAngelo
  • Just as the Rangers will try to exploit DeAngelo, our goal is to exploit Trouba and Gustafsson
  • Get traffic on net for powerplays, and don't be afraid of point shots if the bang-bang play isn't materializing.

    And this is the biggest:
  • Stay calm. Canes in G3 panicked and fumbled passes. I want that Cam Ward cool-as-a-cucumber vibe for the whole team.

Freddie in the starter’s crease. UNBELIEVABLE.

He hasn't played better than "meh" since game 1 or 2 of the Piles series? WHY? Like this kind of shit is really starting to make me question Rod staying on, his loyalty to "his guys" is getting tiring.

That said, short of this team winning in 7 (then all is forgiven) there's going to be a pretty bad stain/mark on this team/coaching staff because a single PPG in G1-3 OR not allowing a SHG (while not scoring on a PP) means this is a 2-2 series at worst. Even as amazing as it would be to make it TO game 7, if we lose, the series can be pretty well hung on a complete failure of special teams execution even if we go 100% from here on out.

Rod wouldn't bench Andersen after he got a W. Y'all know that.
Or after an L

Andersen goes toe to toe with Shesterkin in the last game in MSG, people still cant believe we go back to Andersen. *shrugs*

Freddie hasn't played a game against the Rangers where he hasn't given up at least 3. Which means we need to score 4 to win. And scoring 4 against Igor is a very, very difficult task.

3 GAA goes against freddie but most havent been because of freedie. He is still the most consistent goalie we have and still has a positive GSAx for the playoffs. he is doing everything he needs to do to keep us in games. Special teams is the only reason we havent scored 4 on Shesterkin more than once so far

Koochie gave up 3 in his start and was every bit as "Meh" as Freddie. So with all things literally being equal you go with experience.

Kooch literally kept us from giving up 3 SHGA in that game. I don't remember any of his goals being particularly soft (though I missed OT). Freddie on the other hand was beat and saved by luck or the post MULTIPLE times, and gave up several bad or stoppable goals. He hasn't posted >.900 since the 3-2 2OT loss and averages 3.5 GAA since then. He made a few good saves too, but his movement just isn't there many times and he doesn't inspire much confidence.
