In what world is Seabrook bad, are you people out of your minds? He is a top two D-man in any team in this league, period. Rarely do you see him make mistakes defensively, he makes hits, has pretty good foot speed, chips in offensively and plays long hard minutes. Please tell me where this thing about Seabrook being bad is coming from. This team will not have 3 rookies playing on D next year, not happening, neither is Seabrook going anywhere.

If you tell them they have to go and you don't like them any more, they will agree. Just not to every Team. On top of that, most of them have modified NTCs

We all talk about trading Sharp, Bickell, and possibly Crawford. Couldn't each of them just invoke their "no trade" clause?

Why do we think we can trade any of them wherever we want?

Crawford has NMC so he can kill any deal (I believe Seabrook as well)

Sharp on other hand would have to provide list of teams he would block and Stan would need to find a match

Anyone else worried about C depth again?

Richards will depart as UFA ,, Vermette is not worth attempting to bring back and Kruger could be gone

Hawks C depth will again be issue with only Toews and TT/Shaw as options to play at C (Though Shaw really needs to be on wing)

UFA C market isn't great

Why would Kruger be let go exactly? This is another ridiculous idea going around here lately.

Actually it is not. Personally if there is one guy who an offer sheet might be enticing to it would be him. A team might risk it and give him a $3 mil contract and give up a 2nd round pick.

Hawks really can't match at $3 mil w/o dumping more roster players.

Look at deal Gordon got from Oilers

No doubt a team may view Kruger as worth it ,, At worst they give up 2nd and gain a very good 3rd line C

$1,826,328-to-$3,652,659 Second-round pick

Hell even at 1.825M and cost of 3rd rounder a team would put Hawks in a bad spot

The Hawks can afford $2mil easily. Above that it getting tricky.

The more and more I look at it, the best option would be to get rid of Sharp Bickell and Versteeg. They can sign Kruger and Saad to Bowman like contracts. Then, it gives them room to do a lot more like take back a real #4D or a young C.

I don't know why I thought of this and it's only tangentially related but... Does anyone else see a lot of Chelios potential in Duncan Keith? I think he might play through his contract + 1 or 2 more.

Agreed. I'm wary of locking in a 31 year old Seabrook long term at $6 million+.

Who says it will be 6+ million?

8-years at 5-6 is doable.

Sure he could get 7 now but I doubt he will get a long term contract at that number. He would only get 4-years at that value, which is why a longer deal with a lesser salary/hit is more likely.

I could see 8-years @ 5per, especially if it is front loaded.

This to me is the ideal avenue to getting under the cap next year as well. Losing Sharp will hurt, but someone has to go, and the Hawks seem to have the most options in their system at F to replace those guys as opposed to trying to replace a defenceman like Seabrook.

Yea, it's possible but it's too early to really tell. If he is playing like this when he is 36+ absolutely.

Disagree - Seabrook is a lock to get 5Y/7M on the market and I'd honestly be pretty surprised if someone didn't push that to 6 years. He didn't take an overly team friendly contract last time around and I see no reason for him to do so this time.

At a minimum he's making $6.5.

No way Kruger signs an offer sheet that low; but 3 million, yes.

The problem here is what if the cap is only $68m?

Your team:
G: Crawford/Darling

D: Keith/Seabrook/Hjalmarsson/van Riemsdyck/Johns (+ 2 more)

1: Toews/Saad/Hossa
2: Teravainen/Kane/Hartman
3: McNeil/Panarin/Shaw
4: Kruger/Nordstrom/Danault

(players with under a year experience in italics)

That leaves about $3.5m and you need three more minimum contracts just to fill the roster. Ouch!

And that's without adding at least a fourth veteran defenseman, another veteran top 6 forward, an experienced #2 or #3 center.

But if the cap is that low, Kruger and Saad may get signed for a little less. Maybe Oduya takes a creative salary structure to come back with a lesser cap hit. Maybe there's one or two Richards-type deals that can be worked out for veterans.

Do you think Richards would want to come back? Is he going to retire? Would we want him back? At what costs would it be?

I say yes for 2 mil again.
