Here's the crazy thing - I would put him on PP1 in a net front role IMMEDIATELY. It's the one thing he clearly brings at this level and the one thing that is clearly lacking on the roster.

But I suspect they will try shuffling around the rest of the perimeter-based deck chairs while the waters of failure rise.

Would have really liked Kulich to get an extended look considering he would be replacing Skinner. Offense for Offense and lack of Defense for lack of Defense. Instead Murray will play very little and bring just as little to the table.

Kulich will be in Sweden soon to play on Czechia's WJC team. Probably the right move for him at this point.

(I'm busting out a new gloom-and-doom metaphor here. What do you think?)

The Sabres' season is circling the drain.

Murray blows. Way too slow.

For regular shifts, he's probably still too slow. But to plant him in front of the net to provide a screen that Tuch's corpse can't do any more and no one else is willing to do? Not an issue.

But we are talking serious minutes to replace. They will have to use him. And he seldom leaves the nz. Its like he is watching cars racing back and forth while he idly watches.

Since Skinner isn't the PP entry guy and doesn't do much puck retrieval anyway... not sure what the issue would be in using him as a specialist.

As for Skinner's ESTOI... I'm sure they could find some way to replace his empty calorie scoring.

Skinner is the team leader in PP goals this season

And yet he still struggles to make plays for others on the PP. He's 70th in the NHL among forwards with at least 3 minutes of PPTOI/game and 10 games played in PP goals/game while he's on the ice at 6.27. There are a lot of other guys in the league getting it done better overall as a unit. Hell, they are only a +6 in goal differential with him on the ice on the powerplay on the year (10 for, 4 against, tops on the team). With how dysfunctional it is, it might be an opportunity to try others who may be able to be more complete in that aspect of the game or offer missing skills.

Murray is about useless at the NHL.

Would we rather claim Hinostroza instead?

Murray getting the Pilut treatment tonight should point to him not being in favor with the HC. None of the vet tweeners they have tried this year have seemed to work out.
