There's a part of me that wonders if they intend to use Krebs to replace VO and then go get a more typical 4th line center for KO and Zem.

He (or specifically his agent) may have found that teams either weren't willing to go to $2.5M for multiple years, or weren't willing to do term.

It could also be that he (and his agent) are banking on the salary cap jumping next year and being able to get a larger overall payday.
