They talked to SKA management and Michkov's agent, because talking to Michkov directly could complicate the situation with getting him to NA.
This. He's being careful to make sure it doesn't appear as if we're tampering as to not get in trouble with IIHF

The IIHF only cares if he signs in Philadelphia with an existing KHL contract.

Briere is publicly playing it safe and distancing the Flyers from the situation because:
1. talking directly to Michkov about contract termination would undoubtedly piss off SKA.
2. Bettman prohibits teams from direct negotiation with KHL teams regarding contract buy-outs, etc.

That said, all of the above is likely being done via 3rd party intermediaries.

If true, the Flyers PP is likely to get a lot better. I don't know if he'll be ready for 5v5.

SKA doing this could set a new precedence for Russian players. We may be entering an era where Russian prospects have more control.

Well if this is true, so much for the "Bobrov was feeding the Habs intel on Michkov" excuse.

Michkov's 3 year KHL contract was always oversold as the reason he dropped in the draft. It was really about several other things.
